Hi all, first post here. I found this board in my search to find if there was a list of books Mr. King has mentioned or recommended. Does anyone know of such a list? I see you're doing the recent tweets in this thread... I'm thinking of books he mentions in "On Writing", "Dance Macabre", etc. I can only imagine a comprehensive list like this would be unimaginably vast.. (the recommended reading list of a Writer?!! ) but even a beginner's list would be great. If no one's aware of such a thing, I figure maybe I can be the one to start assembling one. Imagine you have read no books before but are an advanced, intelligent alien life beamed to this planet, and starting today, you aim to start reading voraciously in order to learn writing. This is the list I envision..

I read a book recommended by Stephen King - "I'll Be Gone in the Dark"

I found the beginning very good but unfortunately she died suddenly in her sleep at the age of 46 - so the parts of the book that they took from her notes are not as well written.

The beginning is very good!

I heard about this on the news, so tragic she didn't live to see that awful man she had been so intent on writing about put behind bars.

Huston is one of the most remarkable prose stylists to emerge from the noir tradition in this century, and The Shotgun Rule only confirms his talent, his grasp of dialogue and machine-gun narration… and his heart. There’s a lot of blood in this book, and a lot of heart. It’s Stand By Me on dexedrine.

Love your work... otherwise I wouldn't be here! But aside from your own novels, has your reading list of other authors work been updated since publication of "On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft "? I'm sure there are more timely novels that have interested you. I highly recommend the film "Rebel in the Rye". Sums up the sacrifices that J. D. Salinger endured and what all writers face.

Thank you.
