In the book, towards the end, Jake wonders if 9/11 could have been caused by something Al Templeton had done. How could that be possible if the both of them entered the portal numerous times, which should overwrite everything that has done the last time someone entered it?

Haven't read it since it came out, but it seems like there was a concept of each trip through weakening the cohesion of the possible futures. Or in other words, too many trips may make this world "move on." So by making numerous trips through the thinny, he could have worsened the future.

I don't remember that. It's been awhile for me too though. What I remember is when u come back to present day the future will result it what changes u made while in the past and stayed that way unless u went back down the rabbit hole. Then everything reset and everything that u did last time was undone

Remember the dude that kept calling him "Jimla" and wanting to talk to him? It seems to me that was why. I could be wrong, though. I would like to reread this one, but I have a large backlog of reading material right now.

I here ya. my reading log is out of control. have to slow down and concentrate on one thing for awhile. right now im reading conellys bosch series, jack reacher series, on dark tower 4 and want to finish that, on the 2nd book of the All Souls triliogy, john puller series of Baldacci etc. I did just finish career of evil to finish the cormorant strike trilogy (although now she has announced she is going to write 7 of em, finished the will robie series from Baldacci so some stuff is getting finished.
so ya its hard to find the timeout to go back and do a reread. I definetily want to re read 112263 and will at some point. are you talking about the yellow card man or green or red. cant remember. but you have a point there bc I remember even the first time down when he came back the card guy and a different color so maybe it doesn't completely reset. we are going to have to do a reread and hopefully some other members who are more versed in this will chime in how king constructed it.

You remember more than me. We like the same sorts of books, sounds like. I've read most of the Bosch books; they are the most realistic cop books I've found (I absolutely HATE Wambaugh). Bosch is one of the best "flawed heroes" of modern literature. I love Reacher too, even though they are highly UNrealistic - basically Murder She Wrote for men. I have read a few Baldacci, although he tends toward the political thriller, which I don't like too much.

Big fan of Lawrence Block, Tim Dorsey (Serge is another great flawed hero, although HE doesn't think he is!), Stephen Hunter, Jeff Lindsey (can't wait to see what follows Dexter.)

The Crossing. Featuring his half brother the Lincoln lawyer. Brilliant.

Hope i got your idea right. Do you remember what Yellow (Green) Card Man said to Jake when he tried to escape from the past after JFK assasination? If i remember alright, he told him, that each trip to the past and back overwrites most of, but not everything. Some time strings remains unharmed and it leads to reality corruption. That is why Card man asked Jake to enter the rabbit hole to see what the future holds. In future, injured at Vietnam war, mr. Duning told Jake a new history. Being in alternated future Jake sometimes heard a kind of noise, similar to broken glass ring. Maybe it is a noise, coming from unneeded time strings, which are made by Jake's and Al's trips. After that, Jake made a decision not to stay in 1960's with Sadie to prevent possible reality corruprion.
As for me, the presence of this "time strings" is the reason why Sadie remembers Jake in 2012 since they never met. "She heard his name in her dreams"- it may be the influence of time strings, which are connects them through almost 50 years.
