We had a question in the other section of Nightmares and Dreamscapes about this story. They wanted to know if the kids 'were aliens' so what do you think?
I hope they were aliens! Actually...
the description when they "maybe" change makes me think they are the kids of the 10 o'clock people!

They were fascinating. Real little beings, maybe they could read his thoughts. See, I thought they somewhat 'read' Miss Sidleys thoughts. It was one of the reasons they were playing the mental game with her.
Yes, and the children (creatures) at the end who were supposedly mentally challenged, were doing the same thing to her...and then the psychiatrist. IMHO

The pace of this story moved quickly, before I knew it, there was the end. I liked in the very back he said this story had no redeeming social merit. It struck me funny.
It definitely shows how much you can accomplish in few words! Take that-everyone who thinks all SK's works are as long as "The Stand!" Right?! =D I think he said those things in his notes to somewhat "soften" the horrific nature of a teacher killing students. We all know he's caught h*ll from many who don't understand that a story's a story and you can't blame fiction for all the problems in the world!

I wonder why he chose Miss Sidleys weapon to be a scrap of mirror? Could it be something about self reflection always cuts you? or just logically, that would be available in an institution. Think that would be the one question I would ask him if I could.
I read it as the weapon that would've been available to her...but I definitely like your thoughts on self reflection.

I am quite sure there are thousands of teachers who may have really wished to take a few out of their classes. How timely with school starting here next week.:snicker:

Well Guys, I think we discussed this one in record time. Let's see, the timeline was sequential with mostly a single viewpoint.

I think it's a strong encouragement to do what you love-if you don't like your job...don't give up until you find your calling! =D
So Morgan, this is what it was saying to you?

It reminded me to be a little nicer to the teacher and to listen more to what my son has to say about this teacher or what may be happening.

I really do think the children were actual monsters, but I believe we can take positive meaning and life lessons out of even the bleakest works of fiction if we choose to...=D
