Dark Tower series

I don’t recall which book, but the animal cruelty involving ‘youths’ that feed a meat-wrapped firecracker to a dog.

That reminds me of, I believe, don't quote me as for certain on this, a moment in the Dark Tower series
where a woman cleaning her house got down on her hands and knees, under a spell of some sort, maybe, and started to lick the dust out of the wall corners .....

And Doc, my answer about the Stand is a different take from recitador 's,
Like with Lloyd Henreid, who Flagg waited on until he knew that Henreid went through the rat and started to eat the guy in the cell next over's leg, to come then come and 'rescue' him, so Flagg waited until the Kid violated Trashy before 'rescuing' him. That's a run-on sentence that I hope makes sense..

Huh, that's a view I've never considered. Makes sense to me. Btw...your first spoiler reminds me of the short story called The Yellow Wallpaper. Thanks for sharing these.

When the woman that lives in the trailer tries feeding chocolate pudding to her dead baby. I think the mother was too forceful with the baby and she broke its neck. This bothered me more than all the vampires combined.

I don't remember Lloyd actually eating the rat, it was a 'just in case thing' - same with the guy in the next cell - just pulled him closer. Unless I have forgotten and it was included in the uncut version. I had only read that one once.

I can't remember, either. I thought he ate part of it and was "saving the rest for later." Idk.

Perhaps then, Flagg's
foreknowledge was to wait until Lloyd was just that desperate, and then possibly moments before he actually started chowing down, showed up to 'save the day.'

From this site - Guess it was in the uncut, I really don't remember that.

The Plague
The superflu descends upon Phoenix, killing all of the prison guards and most of the inmates. Lloyd is abandoned in his cell to starve to death. Eight days after the last prison meal is served, he has eaten all of his stored-up food, including a dead rat. He has begun to consider eating the leg of the nearest dead inmate, Trask.

When Randall Flagg arrives on the cellblock, Lloyd is immediately both hopeful and afraid, perceiving that he must be "the devil". Flagg seems empathetic to Lloyd's plight, but also makes light of his haggard condition and descent into cannibalism (in the uncut novel, Lloyd did indeed begin "lunching on filet of Trask") and even taunts him with descriptions of his lunch.
