Ok, so at the end of DT7, Suzannah
goes through the door to meet Eddie and Jake in another world for her happy ending, and the gun she is carrying doesn't make it through, functionally... it turns into basically a toy gun, as far as I remember, it won't fire anymore. So she throws it in the trash can. So, what happens on Roland's next journey to the tower? He has the horn of eld, but is he short one gun?

Also, I always assumed that on the last trip to the tower, Roland wouldn't let Jake drop, thus wouldn't get the tarot reading by the man in black, and a big chunk of the story would change drastically, for the better. For one, Mordred wouldn't be born, because Jake wouldn't have to be rescued from the house on dutch hill in order to cross over into Midworld. Thus Suzannah wouldn't become pregnant w/ Roland's/The Crimson King's baby. Also, with Jake with him, he wouldn't have his hand eaten by one of the lobstrosities. He would be able to help Eddie get through withdrawal and maybe Detta wouldn't be such a bitch with a child being there to witness it. Never know with Detta though, haha.
I could go on and on; I just see so much of the story changing with Jake never being killed by Roland in book 1.

Anyone have any thoughts as to how the gun situation and Jake
not dying in the first book
would change
the gunslinger's last trip to the dark tower?

...no guarantee that the wheel wouldn't continue to turn, and that another gunslinger wouldn't be recruited-or that Jake wouldn't meet his demise in some other manner, that's the mind-bending part of this tale...

Each cycle through, like life, is about Redemption. So even if this isn't the final cycle, there WILL be a final cycle. Some things will change, hopefully for the better, each time through. We don't know if we have read the penultimate trip or just a random one.[SPOILER/]

When you think about it the other gunslingers seem to start their quest over like Jake did when he died a couple times, and father Callahan.Like Gan restarting them in other worlds, except if they die in the Main world. I think Susannah ditches the gun so that she won't suffer the same fate of those on the quest. She has to stop being a gunslinger to be free of the effects ie. death and reboot. I was surprised that she threw the gun away even though it was wrecked. Maybe she had to realize to be free she had to get off the path completely. I was also surprised her memory started to fade so fast when others who went through the doors knew where they had come from and other information.

As for Jake's fate... I was so mad when King killed him off again. At that point I found it like a crutch because he'd done it so many times before. That and it was the cost to save him (his character) because he was so important. It made me feel that King was a blowhard, real King not character King. They could have just driven the car around King and let the van hit it. Duh. But that wouldn't have had the cost that King was looking for, for the scene. Because of that the scene, it made me realize that King was going to take every character down as the cost of the quest. It was all a sacrifice to be on the path and in the end Roland's reboot in the desert was the biggest sacrifice, even if it was unknown by Roland himself.

....just a "take no prisoners" effect.....I can't get behind "blowhard" though.....pretty harsh, since most of us have never met the man....

I was so mad when King
killed Jake
for the last time that it changed how I view the man. LOL. So bad, but oh well. It's not like we don't know he has a mean streak. He kills off characters with no mercy. lol. I was just mad at that moment.

Hid the plot point. Look in the 6th box on the toolbar up there ^ and the last icon has the Spoiler tag. Highlight the part that needs to be hidden and it will get a SPOILER.-- Moderator
