I bought a webcam and there was no problem in my pc recognising it. Then I downloaded a driver for it at their website which I installed.

The problem is, even though I can see the icon for it on my desk when I click on it I see all the functions for the cam, but I can't click them. (I don't know what the technical term is when you see functions you can't click on which are shown less boldly.)
The only one I can click on is 'exit' and then even the icon disappears completely.

Anyone any idea what the cause can be? Unfortunatly at my store no one picks up the phone.

So much for plug and play. I'm not sure if you need both content or content and software. If just content...can you transfer the raw files to your computer and edit them in another software program? Check for any log files or messages in the relevant folders (either on the vid machine or computer where it is trying to install). Check the event viewer on your computer to see if that tells you anything. It may be security related and you'll need to check your folder settings. I hope some of this helps. My only other advice is to get out and get back in.

It said plug and play indeed on the package. The rest of your answer is way too technical for me, I'm not even sure what raw files are... Or the difference between content and software...

With get out and get back in you mean take the camera-wire out of the HDMI and put it back in? I just did that, didn't make any difference.

I tried to do a test for the camera on their website and got a complete blue screen (!) on my pc after I allowed them to connect to the camera here:

Trust.com - Contact & Support - Probleemoplossing - Webcam test pagina

A blue screen indicates something wrong with drivers often, doesn't it?

What I don't get is why would you only see the menu and not be able to use it? What does that kind of problem have to do with?

Was there software that came with the camera (or on their website)? You may need to install that if there was.

I know with HP printers for example, you can plug them in and they will be recognized and you can print with them but to use many of the other features, you have to install the software that came with the printer.

You needed to download a driver from their site, which I did and the downloading itself gave no problems.

Might try going to control panel>programs>uninstall program, then uninstall the software completely. Do a reboot on computer to make sure no traces of the program are left then do a clean install of the software from scratch. The install may have hit a during initial set up.

One thing I do sometimes if I'm having a hard time installing hardware is to google the model of the hardware and look for tech forums etc that are not related to the manufacturers site. You would be surprised at all of the troubleshooting info you can pick up that way. When you do this, make sure and look at the dates of the articles you are reading. It's easy to pick up something a couple of years old.

It seems to be working. Strangely you can't start it from the icon, but only from your list of programs in start. There it says AMCap and that turns the camera on it seems. When it's on you can use the functions under the icon. Rather confusing.

I actually would have preferred a Logitech camera over Trust, but they only had Trust.

Thanks for the help, everyone. If I run into further issues I'll post them.

I still find it strange that I got a blue screen for allowing a camera test. A blue screen is a major computer error, isn't it? When Windows shuts down completely there is something seriously wrong I would think. Or does blue screen look worse than it actually is?

A blue screen could be because of a video conflict.

Blue screens happen once in while but if you keep getting it, you have some kind of conflict.

It's possible the new driver could have a conflict but unless it's happening repeatedly, I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. You can look and see if there are updated drivers for your video card.

For now the camera is working. It just seems strange to me that initially during installation there can be such a conflict that Windows has to shut down...
But blue screens happen every once in a while. I've had two last year, although before that there was a long period without. If it happens repeatedly within a short time there must be a conflict indeed.

I still got a blue screen yesterday. Still an indication something is not quite right. But I don't get where you can find what's causing it. It may be the camera, but something else too.

Is there not some way you can scan your pc for possible problems and their solutions? Just like you can scan it for virusses? If there is a technical problem I never know where to look for it...

Blue screens can be indicative of several different problems. The issue could be with your hard drive and have nothing to do with the camera. There's software out there like Gparted that can do a sector scan of your drive but the interface isn't very user friendly. You might also check your installed programs to see if there's any programs that have been installed recently that look suspicious. If there is a program that you don't remember installing, you might uninstall, do a reboot and see if the blue screen error still occurs. Also, might do a defrag on your hard drive. There should be an installed program already that will run a de-fragmentation on your drive. If you go to the search bar and type in defrag it should bring up the program. A defrag can take anywhere from just a few minutes to a couple of hours depending on how fragmented your hard drive is.

Thanks for the help.

Did a defragmentation. No suspicious recent programs. If it appears soon again, I might uninstall the camera and get back to the manufacturer about it, but it's basically working fine.

Once your camera is running well, is there a danger in unhooking it again - more blue screen issues and things like that?

I hardly use it (I only got it to prove damage issues to things I bought online), so to protect it (against dust or damaging while falling) I'd rather unhook it again and keep it in its box.
If it gives a lot of new problems with unhooking I'll leave it, but put something protective around it.
