Hello,

I was first hooked on reading Stephen King in '81 when I read a well passed around paperback copy of "The Stand". "IT" also caught my imagination (scaring the hell out of me) and I started actively collecting books about then - late 80s. I finally was able to finish some book shelves and can proudly display some of the collection. These are all firsts:

1 Shelf 1 and 2 .jpg

2 Shelf 3 and 4.jpg

2 Shelf 3 and 4.jpg 3 Shelf 5 and 6.jpg 4 Stand LTD.jpg

Early on in collecting, I noticed the first appearances listed on the copyright pages of "Night Shift" and "Skeleton Crew", and started collecting those as well.5 first appearances.jpg

Along the way I came across a few ARCs:6 ARCs.jpg

A few odd things: 7 MISC stuff.jpg
That's a hardcover of "The Longwalk" :)

A bunch of well loved paper back firsts:8 Box O paperbacks.jpg

Other editions and reprint collections:9 Other novels and collections.jpg

I actively looked for "The Float" for years and was tossed out of more than one "adult book store" in the process!

Thanks everyone!

Most of what you see I've had for close to 20 years i.e. pre "commercial" internet. Relied mostly on the yellow pages, scouring the local used bookstores (most of which have closed), book dealer's catalogs, and comic book conventions. I've only seldomly used eBay to find specific items I couldn't find - I think it was the May 1984 Redbook magazine and/or the Sept 1976 Cosmopolitan.

I guess, back in the day, one could mail 2 books to Mr. King, he would inscribe, sign, and date them and send them back. He graciously signed my copy of "The Stand", and "The Drawing of the Three", but oddly enough, on 2 different days :) . These are now two of my prized possessions.

Collecting kind of lost it's luster when I missed out on getting a copy "Six Stories" SL when it was first available. Can't remember if there was a lottery or I didn't hear about it until it was too late.

I was fortunate enough to see a performance of the "Rock Bottom Remainders" when they came to town years ago - and they were actually pretty good and entertaining. But other than that, I haven't been fortunate to see Mr. King in person. :(

I'm glad to be here! I now need to take some time to peruse some of the other forums and posts. I have a question or 2 and probably need to find the appropriate forum to ask.

Thanks again!

Read the posts and ask away. You'll find this place is very special. It is "family". Someone is bound to know the answers. Our MsMod is a wealth of knowledge.

Hello! Welcome fellow newbie! Your collection is very impressive, thanks for sharing the photos! I have a vintage book somewhere (hidden for protection no doubt) that I picked up at a thrift store. Inside the front cover is a note to someone and it is signed by Mr. King. It's not one of his books, however, and while I feel privileged to have such an item in my possession, I can't imagine why anyone would give it away. I'll have to find it one of these days and share it with you!

Here's a newbie question (or two): What are the rules and regulations for posting images such as magazine covers of Mr. King's short stories, non-fiction articles, and interviews? I would think if it's relatively mundane such as:
10 Sourcebook 1982.jpg
it would be OK, but if it's a Cavalier, or other "men's magazine" that perhaps there may be reservations (unless the naughty bits :) are covered up).

#2 Is it ever permissible to post readable images of Mr. King's copyrighted material? The article in the 1982 Sourcebook, "My High School Horrors", I believe is uncollected, and I'm reckoning there are a few here who'd like to read this, but I don't want to receive a cease and desist from the law department.

Thanks.

It depends, in part, on where you plan to post it and for what reason.

Hi there,

I have a newbie question for you all... what is a "Cavalier"? I'm currently reading Mr. King's On Writing and he identifies his idea for Carrie as a 'Cavalier'. Thanks!
