Just in case anyone was wondering about what "Looking for Alaska" is really about.... here is the Wiki link, which for once, is pretty true in it's info.

I bring this up because my buddy Sigmund had brought up one of it's quotes in another forum here. I decided to post this here instead.

“We are all going, I thought, and it applies to turtles and turtlenecks, Alaska the girl and Alaska the place, because nothing can last, not even the earth itself. The Buddha said that suffering was caused by desire, we'd learned, and that the cessation of desire meant the cessation of suffering. When you stopped wishing things wouldn't fall apart, you'd stop suffering when they did.”

Thank you, Sweetness!

My son turned me on to this book. He's awesome that way. Yay!

The last book (short stories) he turned me onto (that I had time to read) was by Etgar Keret, The Bus Driver Who Wanted To God which included the short story Kneller's Happy Campers that was made into a film Wristcutters: A Love Story.

(BTW-My son was diagnosed dyslexic when he was in the third grade. Had all the special education classes, and all the other things (music, exercises both physical and mental) we looked up and he is now a prolific reader and writer! Cool, huh?
None of professors have an inkling. In fact, he has been asked by two of his professors permission to have his research papers to be an "example" for what they expect from the classes they teach!)

Peace.

Hi, sweetie!!

I'm going to see if I can download the Etgar Keret for my Nook... thanks for the heads up. :biglove:

my nephew Tom was diagnosed with Dyslexia when he was in the 6th grade, bright... inquisitive and sharp but was having such a hard time. After being diagnosed he was given the assistance he needed and graduated at the top of his class. In July, he achieved his dream by graduating from the New Jersey State Police.... he's a proud Statie now! I'm so proud of him!

This sounds amazing - I might have to go to B&N today and get it!
