Was the wendigo there from the beginning when the Micmac Indians first started using it and is that what made the ground sour or had it shown up after they started using it?

I thought the Wendigo was what turned the ground sour but, then again, the Micmacs may have figured out the ground was cursed or bad (on its own merit) after the fact. I don't remember Judd or any other character addressing the burial ground origin, only the realization that it was bad. Didn't the Wendigo cause some of the Micmac Indians to turn cannibalistic and therefore the burial of these 'cursed' remains turned the ground sour? Hmmm, I really don't know for sure. You always keep me wondering, Decoder, LOL.

...yep, the cannibalism is what caused the ground to go sour-thence becoming another stage for the Wendigo to tread.....
