There might be individual threads on these, but I'm just going to do one lump.

Anyone watch Agents of Shield, Gotham, Flash and/or Arrow?

I am China deep into each of these. Comments? Favorite? I'm not a comic book person of Marvel or DC, so how do you think they portray these worlds and characters on the little screen as compared to your treasured comic books?

I got to the second season and it started to feel like a more violent version of the Schumacher Batman movies. Just over the top, ridiculous schlock. I will say this however, BD Wong is amazing as Hugo Strange, in fact, I wish he could have played him in a legit Batman movie.

Is the second season rise of the villains? Because that was my favorite season. The development of Cat and Penguin was heartbreaking and amazing. This last season, I still haven;t gotten through. It lost some of the magic for me.

I can't remember, maybe it deserves another try. I just wish we had a Dark Knight or Batman: The Animated Series quality Batman tv show.

I'm not much a fan of animated shows so we're probably looking for different things in Gotham but I definitely recommend giving it another go. You should at least get through the villains.

I love the guy playing Penguin. When I first saw him, I thought, nope, don't like the character. But, he grew on me very quickly. He does an excellent job.

I've watched this show from the start and while it definitely has its low points I think it is mostly a good show. The last season was quite good. And yes, BD Wong as Hugo Strange was brilliant as was Tonya Pinkins as his assistant, Ethel Peabody.

Looks like 9/21 is the date it reruns this season.

i had to stop watching it. maybe if i can separate it into just a show rather than a batman show i'll give it another go. their timeline is ridiculous, because according to their setup, most batman villains will be in their 60's by the time batman is batman. they could have made it an interesting origin, and instead devolved it into "let's cram every batman villain in for the hell of it". plus i'm not sure how i feel about just how far gordon sinks in this show.

I watched the first season and enjoyed it. I watched half of the second season and eventually deleted the rest off of my PVR to make room. While I enjoyed it I needed to make room for new stuff. I opted to drop this one as I think I'm starting to get tired of constantly being fed superheroes all the time. I agree about the penguin being a good fit. There was a guy in the first season who I thought would be a great joker but he wasn't the joker after all.

I agree. The off-beat casting decisions really work. I love the Penguin and Alfred best. But the entire cast is stellar, IMO. And the writing is excellent. It's not supposed to be origin stories so much as it's just making us look at superhero/villain dynamics. To me, anyway.

well i didn't know this thread existed, but yes. although i still need to catch up on AOS and gotham got a bit over the top for me and i'll try to circle back eventually. there's also Legends of Tomorrow which spun off of Flash/Arrow. i can't say i'm a comic authority, although i might know more than the average bear about em due to various ways and means. the fact that the "Arrowverse" is on CW means way too much romance in what should be mainly an action setting, but they can't help themselves. we also have Black Lighting coming to CW this year, which i think could be interesting. overall, i think the shows do ok, for what they are and where they are. sometimes the things that happen stretch believability (as in, why does the Flash stop to talk and get caught up when he could just zoom in and knock the crap out of someone before they know he's there? but i think that's a problem in the comic too, it's hard to write a good foil for someone so fast, and it's the reason why so many of his main foes are also speedsters, despite the odds of that actually being a thing). favorite is probably the Flash. there's also Supergirl, but i've always found Superman a little ho hum when it comes to heroes and i don't think Supergirl fares any better. i'll try and catch up on it eventually.

coming this fall we also have The Gifted, the x-men based show. could be cool. one of the cool things about all these shows are the number of references they throw in, and the number of characters who show up, even if briefly. easter eggs are fun. oh, and Inhumans coming this year too, although the trailer has me on the fence. it wasn't a great trailer.

i'm basically a sucker for superheroes. so the amount of costumed folks we have running around saving the world/universe suits me. even if the folks on Legends of Tomorrow make a lot of puzzling decisions.

I find the ones I watch entertaining enough. I think probably my favorite is Agents of Shield.

If you watch these news ones, let me know what you think. I may have to throw them into the mix too.

Agents of SHIELD - watched the first couple of seasons but lost interest. It's not a bad show, but it's a wee bit too clean-cut for me. Will watch the most recent season because of Ghost Rider (although it's not the Johnny Blaze incarnation).

The Flash - loved the pilot episode and meant to follow up, but I kinda blinked and now it's a few seasons into its run. I've got too many unread books lying around to play catch-up, but I really like how it embraces its comic-book roots.

Arrow - I'm such an 80s comic-book nerd at heart that I flatly refuse to watch a single episode of this because WB wants to make it so "grim-and-gritty" they shortened the name. It's GREEN ARROW, gosh darnit. Also, unless your name is Luke Cage: superheroes don't wear hoodies. Get out of here with that Smallville crap.

Gotham - Batman without Batman, with a weird timeline that will eventually feature Bruce Wayne becoming Batman in time to casually stroll down to Gotham Social Welfare and beat the crap out of his rogue's gallery while they are waiting to collect their pension cheques. Stupidest. Premise. EVER. Refuse to watch.

The Marvel Netflix shows - these I make time for. Daredevil is my addiction. Jessica Jones was good but told a story over 13 hours when it really only needed about 6. Same with Luke Cage, although it was a nice love letter to Harlem. The Iron Fist showrunner Scott Buck pulled a Dark Tower: took everything that was special about the mythology and threw it away. Buck is busy ruining Inhumans now and he's been replaced for IF season 2. Hopefully it will improve. Scott Buck and Akiva Goldsman should be relegated to daytime soap operas. The Defenders was good, although not as good as it should have been. There's a Punisher series coming up with Jon Bernthal. He was magic in Daredevil S2 and I'm looking forward to this. He's my favourite comic-book character after Spidey.

I don't watch any of the others, so I can't comment on those.
