Agents of SHIELD - watched the first couple of seasons but lost interest. It's not a bad show, but it's a wee bit too clean-cut for me. Will watch the most recent season because of Ghost Rider (although it's not the Johnny Blaze incarnation).

The Flash - loved the pilot episode and meant to follow up, but I kinda blinked and now it's a few seasons into its run. I've got too many unread books lying around to play catch-up, but I really like how it embraces its comic-book roots.

Arrow - I'm such an 80s comic-book nerd at heart that I flatly refuse to watch a single episode of this because WB wants to make it so "grim-and-gritty" they shortened the name. It's GREEN ARROW, gosh darnit. Also, unless your name is Luke Cage: superheroes don't wear hoodies. Get out of here with that Smallville crap.

Gotham - Batman without Batman, with a weird timeline that will eventually feature Bruce Wayne becoming Batman in time to casually stroll down to Gotham Social Welfare and beat the crap out of his rogue's gallery while they are waiting to collect their pension cheques. Stupidest. Premise. EVER. Refuse to watch.

The Marvel Netflix shows - these I make time for. Daredevil is my addiction. Jessica Jones was good but told a story over 13 hours when it really only needed about 6. Same with Luke Cage, although it was a nice love letter to Harlem. The Iron Fist showrunner Scott Buck pulled a Dark Tower: took everything that was special about the mythology and threw it away. Buck is busy ruining Inhumans now and he's been replaced for IF season 2. Hopefully it will improve. Scott Buck and Akiva Goldsman should be relegated to daytime soap operas. The Defenders was good, although not as good as it should have been. There's a Punisher series coming up with Jon Bernthal. He was magic in Daredevil S2 and I'm looking forward to this. He's my favourite comic-book character after Spidey.

I don't watch any of the others, so I can't comment on those.

i forgot about all the netflix shows. i'm down with all things marvel and netflix

There might be individual threads on these, but I'm just going to do one lump.

Anyone watch Agents of Shield, Gotham, Flash and/or Arrow?

I am China deep into each of these. Comments? Favorite? I'm not a comic book person of Marvel or DC, so how do you think they portray these worlds and characters on the little screen as compared to your treasured comic books?

First, I don't compare comic books figures in film/television media as the same as the comic book personae. I mean, if they really screwed with a character, like making Spiderman a Batman type in attitude, environment, and outlook, I'd be disappointed. But they're different storytelling vehicles, with different needs. So I generally go in without great expectations of consistency. Which wouldn't matter much anyway, because it's been a long time since I've picked up a comic book, and when I do, I find that the characters I knew 30 years ago exist now in name only.

Reviews of shows in alphabetical order:

Agents of SHIELD. Watched it, liked it at first, but then too many head shots of too many unsuspecting SHIELD guards, and we gave up. Liked that
they brought Agent Colson back. We watched until that had some resolution. Of course, in comics, nothing is really ever resolved.

Arrow. Watched the first two, three seasons, pretty much enjoyed it, but the overwhelming darkness and overdone character angst brought us down. Haven't seen it for a while, until the Arrow/Flash/Supergirl/Legends of Tomorrow crossover, and to no one's surprise, characters that were dead were now alive again, and relationships have moved on and then come back together.

Daredevil. Netflix. Watched it, loved it, and yeah I know we have this "anti-dark" thing, and this is fairly dark, but for our tastes, it's a palatable dark. Still resentful that they haven't had more episodes.

Flash. Watched it, still watch it, enjoy it. Not as grim as the others, which is probably why, but the multidimensional crossovers are wearing me out, both from confusion and logic. But we'll keep watching.

Gotham. Grandma watched part of the first season. I could tell in the first episode that it was too dark for me and left her to it. She bagged it after a while for the same reason.

Jessica Jones. Netflix. Watched a few episodes, liked it okay, but not enough to keep at it. We might still.

Supergirl. We like it. It's fun and kinda fluffy, with enough seriousness to keep us from relaxing too much. Really, really like J'on J'onzz, who was also a big fave of mine during my DC reading days, and love what they've done with the character. We like the social messaging of this and Flash, a bit in your face but not too much, and since they have the same producers, that's not surprising.

Gotham is useless. I can't stand it. It tries so hard to be edgy! It's dismal for the sake of being dismal, extremely unoriginal, and just plain boring. In (Green) Arrow, they turned the fun loving Robin Hood character from the comics into a rip-off of Christian Bale's Batman. Flash is a fun show. I wish they'd used the actor in the new Justice League movie. SHIELD really blew it. Supergirl, I need to try & catch up with. I liked what little I saw.

Okay, my son has me watching a new show called "Black Lightening." Does anyone watch this? So far, he's got me on rotating episodes of Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and now this guy. I am so very very sorry but your badass attempt is a huge fail.

ATTENTION PEOPLE WHO DESIGNED BLACK LIGHTENING'S OUTFIT:

Every single time I see this:

I think this:

PLEASE REDESIGN HIS OUTFIT. I cannot possibly take him seriously as a super hero guy.

Tried watching HBO’s Watchmen. Ugh. Notice I said tried. I went around the next day griping about the foul experience in my Rorschach voice:

Hhhhrrrruuuhhmmm...flashing mess of closed circuit garbage on television. Been in foul mood ever since. Couldn’t enjoy breakfast, hot ball of hate festering in stomach like carnivorous alien parasite. Someday soon Home Box Office will look up and scream Watch me, and I will whisper, “No.”

Who watches HBO’s ‘Watchmen’? Not me...

i haven't tried picking up Black Lightning. i still haven't tried to go back to Arrow, Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow which all seemed to lose their minds in the same year, idk what happened with the writers. i might try and catch up to them eventually, or i might just stick to crossovers like the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths just to see all the heroes working together. I did catch most of an episode of Batwoman and it was kind of awful.

We watched the first episode, liked it, but didn't like it enough to commit another hour every week to it. I hope it's doing well.
