Director James Wan continues to impress here. For such a young man, he apparently has a lot of respect for classic horror in the vein of The Omen, The Exorcist and The Amityville Horror. If you liked the first one, you'll love the second. If your taste in horror films sway towards cheap gimmicks, gore, torture porn and the like, then this isn't for you. This young dude gets it. Also, Patrick Wilson gets some terrific scenes here. I hope the studio persuades Wan to come back for more fictionalised versions of the Warrens' occult investigations, because I can't see any other director handling this series so well. This is easily my second favourite film of the year.
