That sounds great! I have muscadines and blackberries growing wild along the back fence but I never know how much will pop up. My grandfather tills his garden every April but I have never so much as looked twice at a hoe (insert joke here) and usually try to support my local farmers market. This year I'm going to take baby steps. Do you like grapes? How nice it must be to just pick them from your own vine.
Seedless grapes. They are always nice to have a bowl of them chilling in the frig and when I start my Walk of the Grazers, I hope my hand reaches for them. I always keep various veggies cut up and fruits ready to snack on. They taste good, but aren't quite as satisfying as a handful of gummy bears, or a donut. But, I do try.

I’m limiting my garden this year to just tomatoes, hot and sweet peppers, radishes, leaf lettuce and cucumbers. I did plant a blueberry bush, two different plumb trees and two different pear trees last fall. The trees probably won’t fruit for a couple of years, and just hoping right now they survived this harsh cold winter. Probably will chop down my last apple tree in spring as its got unruly and I'm tired of the mess and bees. The deer will have to fend for themselves next winter.

If Bambi would clean up his turds, I might reconsider. Obviously Bambi never heard the phrase don't sh!t where you eat.

Just before Christmas I found a praying mantis cocoon in a Christmas tree at the DIY store that I work part time. I cut the branch off and took it home as I didn’t want some poor family waking up to about 500 baby mantis crawling around. I secured it to one of my bushes. Hope to have hundreds of mantis around next summer to help take care of the nasty insects. Looks like the bats, bluebirds and swallows will have some competition.

It's nearly planting time, y'all. I want to plant marigolds this year because I like their fragrance and I want to see if they discourage mosquitos from hanging around. Also, I want to plant some cucumbers because they are easier to grow than tomatoes, right? I won't have to get seeds for those until May, though. If the weather keeps warming up around here we will probably see the usual wild daffodils and dogwoods blooming by mid-March. Is anyone going to grow anything this year?
The small orange/red marigolds keep mosquitoes away as well as other garden pests. We always planted them sporadically along the rows of veggies as well as in flower beds.

I have blackberries, raspberries, seedless green grapes, and apples. They are well established in my garden, so don't do much except wait for them to be ready to eat. I did have blueberries and strawberries, but our winter last year killed them, and strawberries especially are really hard to kill.

My days of a big garden are done, nobody here to eat the stuff.
How about blue raspberries, Deej?......

....your plum trees should be okay buddy.....they are more hardy than you think.....just need to put some chicken wire around the trunks and netting over the tops to defray critters until the trees are mature enough to bloom....

They are talking about legalizing marijuana here so I might plant some of that stuff (unfortunately since I live three doors down from the Police station, that might be tricky). If they make it legal to smoke it, then it must be legal to grow it, right?

Also want to plant more edibles such as beets, carrots, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes and possibly zucchini

I've cut up zucchini with mushrooms in spaghetti but never tried it fried. I think I'll try it this summer. I like zucchini in stir fry, too.

Did you used to watch Cheech and Chong movies? I wonder what happened to them, I heard that they had some argument and didn't want to make anymore movies together. If it's legal then you'd have no problem planting a few plants. I didn't think marijuana would grow in Canada because it would be too cold.

We do have a short growing season (especially here in Winnipeg). Some places (like southern Ontario) have much longer growing seasons [and British Columbia is the warmest of all, as they are on the West Coast, north of Washington state.

Glad they're hardy because that's more effort than I'm willing to put into them. I got them for a great price... $3.00 each and the trees were over 8 feet tall, and the blueberry bush looks big enough to produce some fruit this year. I got Bartlett and Moonglow pear trees, and Methley and Burbank plum trees. I understand you need at least two pear and plum trees for cross pollination in order to produce fruit. I’ll have to also pick up another blueberry bush this spring as they only had one left and it also needs cross pollination. I don’t know how good the fruit will taste but can't really complain as the price was so low I couldn't pass it up.
