Ever since I first read the novel got intrigued by this scene, that struck me as wrongly described since there was a chracter that appeared out of nowhere and then wasn't explained no more... the scene is at the hospital, when Ann Norton is walking in, there's a man who says allerted him about a "woman with a gun"... then he says "where's the boy?". Now, who is the boy? and why does he vanishes in the air of the night?

...all I remember is Mark taking Ann out before she could get to Matt, there WAS a visitor Matt had before his heart attack-whose name he couldn't remember, which I THINK was Barlow looking for Petrie...please correct my fallible memory if I'm wrong...

The boy is Mark, and he continues through to the end of the book.

Salem's 'Lot was the first King book I ever read. I was visiting my cousin in Colorado Springs (he was stationed at the Air Force Academy) and becasue he was so busy with the cadets I had plenty of time to myself. I still have the copy and it is dog eared and well worn beyond compare. I still get it out to read it every now and then. I don't remember a "ghost figure" and I think I could quote some of the lines. There is going to be a reread to find out.

Yeah, that one perplexed me. Don't remember a "ghost figure". That's cool how you remember where you were when you read this book. I have my own memories of reading each one for the first time. Just like recalling special times galvanized in your mind by remembering a song.
