Oh, I saw this a few days ago, had some thoughts, and then got lost in work. Thanks for posting!

The show looks awesome, but I am super confused as to why they felt the need to call it The Haunting of Hill House (i.e. a reference to the Shirley Jackson story). Other than an evil house, I don't see a connection with the novel. The show looks original enough that it could have stood on its own without the Jackson title. Strange. Unless, maybe there's some deeper connection that wasn't in the trailer. Either way, definitely seems like something to check out!

P.S., hi SKMB friends! It feels like a long time since I've been on a regular (non-Halloween Story) thread.

It's another story about the same house. It's about a family that lived in the house and the children that grew up there now having to return there through certain circumstances and being confronted with their past. Whether it takes place before or after the novel, and whether characters from the novel are in it, I'm not sure.

I will give that a try - the mom looks very scary to me. I'm scared already. I might not really get to watch this. Happy thoughts...happy thoughts..
There are several new scary shows coming to Netflix. Hold the Dark and Creeped Out are on my watchlist. Did you see those?

Hold the Dark

Creeped Out

Oooh these look good. Thank you for posting.

I've watched the first six episodes of "Hill House" and it is outstanding. Far and away the best horror show that I've seen in a long while. I had zero expectations and was expecting a warmed over version of the Jackson novel. But they have cleverly taken the characters and crafted an entirely new story. Great acting, some creepy scenes, and surprisingly well written.

I'm exactly halfway. As a drama series it's superb, but it just isn't very scary. Flanagan's Oculus was one of those rare horrorfilms that was actually a little scary, I had hoped he would be able to achieve something like that for a tv-series. I can't think of much tv horror that is actually scary though - it seems in the seventies they achieved that the best - but it's often as if on tv that doesn't work as well as in theatrical films, or they don't really go for it.
There are jumpscares in it, but not an overall sense of eerieness unfortunately. It's possible they go more full-out in that sense towards the finale of course. There is some good surreal imagery though (the ghost with the cane for example).

I just finished it yesterday and I must say I really enjoyed it, it was nothing like the book but I felt it was really well written.

I watch and read lots of horror and this was in my opinion one of the best horror series I have seen in years, and better than any horror movie I have seen in years either! I would't say it's scary but there were enough creepy bits :)

I think It was really clever and loved the swapping between now and then and seeing things from all of the family members point of views. I loved the fact it was so psychologically involved as well.

I thought the twist with the 'Bent Neck Lady' was genius!

I felt the ending wasn't as strong as the content in the rest of the series but I hasn't put me off, I would happily re watch the whole thing again.

LOVED IT! :)
