Welcome!

Now that you see yourself in Roland -- eye on the prize and neglecting family, friends and girlfriend -- instead of saying no to their invitations all the time, maybe just once in a while you can go against that strong urge and say yes to them. Just once in a while. The more you do it, the easier it will be to want to be with them!

That would be the goal.. To not losing sight of what I'm suppose to be appreciating. The series somehow evolved to some kind of guideline or workbook..

Thanks for the reply.

Hi, just finished reading and first time posting here!

Really enjoying reading this thread and I am on board with some of the others who think Roland didn't quite this journey to the tower "right" (leaving the Horn of Eld, letting Jake fall). To this end, I think that Susannah's happy ending was not so happy after all. I think the reason that there were so many references to Nozz-a-la and Takuro Spirits was a reminder that the world Jake, Susannah and Eddie end up in is the one that falls to the super flu. I'm not sure if Roland's next journey has any bearing on what happens to them, he may draw another 3 or maybe it's always these 3, and maybe regardless of who is drawn, everything will be set right once he completes the quest the right way, or maybe it won't.

Anyways, maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I got a sinister feeling from the happy reunion in New York and I think that Susannah's rapidly fading memory of her time in Mid-world is going to fade just short of remembering the plague that befalls the world of Takuro Spirits.

Did you lose power from that wind storm that went through Washington about a week ago? It wasn't bad for me here but I live down in a sheltered small valley so most of the wind storms pass right over me.

Yep. There are some trees up on the hill (we're in the valley, too) that need to be trimmed or even cut but the owner won't let the county do it. So every time it gets windy, a branch -- or more -- comes down on the wire. And, since we're out in the hinterlands, we are always the last to get it fixed.

Isn't there a code or policy of the power company that lines have to be clear of branches? The power company yearly clears branches on the main lines on our right of ways, but it is the responsibility of the land owner to keep their drop lines clear. Seems that not clearing those branches interferes with your ability to maintain power, thus there should be a policy in place?

That's what I was thinking, too. I know here in Spokane the power company has the right to come along and trim trees wherever the branches are in close proximity to the lines. It is cheaper for the power company to do this than it is to get those linemen out in the storms or in the aftermath of a storm.

I just completed listening to the series on audio. I think "this time" since he is kicking off with the horn in hand that clearly there was something in his past, or past life that he has corrected. Maybe "this time" he does not allow Jake to drop, and they complete the journey together.

Three years late to the conversation, I know but I just finished the series last night. Roland has the horn this time. What happens next? Will he blow it to drown out the song of the tower? A friend suggested Roland's suffering and sacrifice is keeping the tower standing. Meanwhile I'm looking at the kid that can erase cancer and big bads like "That's all you got?". One would think he could draw Odetta/Detta/Susanna with legs or fix his hand. The ending is so frustrating, I'm a roleplayer and I do horrible things to my characters but sending them back to the beginning with no memory is cruel.

Certainly a case of the book being better than the movie though. I enjoyed the movie, but I'd probably have liked it much less if I'd read the series first. They could have made a bunch of movies but instead they just strangled almost everything from it.... Not that I minded drooling over Idris Elba who does not match the description King gave of Roland but whatever.

So now I have a dilemma, I read The Green Mile, Eyes of the Dragon and The Stand back in high school(graduated in '99), and read It just before drowning in the Tower series now what do I read? Salem's Lot sounds like an option with our good priest who gave his life to help Jake get through the Dixie Pig.... Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome Tria . Salem's Lot is an excellent choice. Bag of Bones, Duma Key, 11/22/63. Just about any SK available to you.
