When it comes to the cast I am split, on one hand the Harry Potter approach has a certain appeal there isn't any investment to any one character due to fame and fans. It leaves out the ok he is the most famous so he is the main character problem. But on the other hand I love this book and have wanted to see a movie version that I didnt make up in my head since 2003 at that time I cast Channing Tatum as ray and zach efron as stebbins. So an all star cast that will guarantee money made for the movie might be best but then the problem becomes how much will they change to play to ego or make so'n'so happy

It's very important (to me) that the actors be young. The characters in this book are teenagers. Could this movie be made with actors in their thirties or forties? Yes, of course, but I think part of the tragedy of this novel is how none of the boys would ever have the chance to live...to start their lives. There are so many firsts left undone. What hubris this must have taken for these young men to believe that they alone would be the winner of the Long Walk. Perhaps some entered into it for the danger and excitement, knowing it was a suicide. I hope this movie gets intelligent writers like Mike Flanagan, for instance. Backstories and character arcs are going to be extremely vital for a film about walking. :glare:

Young actors I think that would be good in this (I think these guys are under 21)

Charlie Plummer (Lean On Pete)
Asa Butterfield
Griffin Gluck (American Vandal)

I'd like to see unknowns. Seeing an A-List celebrity play characters I've already formed in my head distracts me from the character. If Samuel L. Jackson were to be cast as Ray (ignoring the age inconsistency for the sake of the example) all I would be thinking about the whole time is Samuel L. Jackson.

I agree unknowns would work the best. I think the directorial style as well as the film style would help a lot I would like to forget that I am watching the long walk movie, and feel as if I am watching the long walk TV show at a theater if that makes sense almost like going to a sports bar to watch a UFC's event

To feel more like an actual spectator to the event, sure. I definitely wouldn't have a problem with A-list celebrities, but I've just noticed their extra-textual personalities can bleed into their roles even with their best efforts to avoid doing so. I brought up Samuel L Jackson because Rockstar Games actually made that point about why they didn't cast him as a voice for their games. I've heard of Bruce Willis refusing certain actions in a role because he would be doing things he believes John McClane would never do.
