This is a chilling one. We don't have milkmen anymore, but I remember when we did. My Dad worked for a dairy when I was little. I rode in the milk truck with him to pick up the big steel milk cans. I remember the milk truck and the man in white. It ended when I was four or five or so. The idea that that guy could be a stone-cold killer is shiver-inducing.

I haven't read this in a while, but from what I remember of it, I can say I would like to see more of the story. Would be cool if he wrote maybe another short story about the milkman. The second part of the tale, as I recall, wasn't as compelling to me, but I have to get another copy of Crew to read it again.

Has the TV series Haven ever had an episode dedicated to a milkman? Never watched that show, but from what I understand, it loosely is based on that Colorado Kid book (novella?) and sometimes features episodes inspired by King stuff. It's funny, because if the show has not featured a milkman yet, one could argue the writing staff is not well-versed enough in the King bibliography.

I was reading John Straley a while back -- a story perhaps 10 or 12 years old, and he described a drug ring in a tony Seattle suburb where all the drops were made under the guise of a dairy delivery service. I never really thought that much about it. I don't know if dairies really do still deliver anymore. But I know there are third-party services that deliver groceries. It's an interesting idea.

One of my uncles worked in a dairy plant and I remember my dad taking us there for fresh milk and dairy products, cottage cheese, yogurt, ice cream,etc..it was cool..not the same as going to the grocery store..long time ago!

I've always been curious why Big Wheels is considered the second milkman story when it was published first. I haven't read either one yet, they're on my list, but since I vowed to read his stuff in sequential order (publication order) I'll be getting to Big Wheels first. I understand it might be chronologically second, but would you say it's required to read them in order?

So brief
So intriguing
So much left to the imagination
So wanted to see so much more
but this story is perfect just as it stands
Love it
Creepy amazing
and cool slick as dew on a blade of St.Augustine grass at breaking dawn
An all time favorite

Very scary. We can get milk delivered in Ireland, but most people just go to the supermarket. But that story gave me proper chills.
