Oscar Nominations 2019: The Complete List

What say you? I'm disappointed that Timothee Chalemet was not nominated for his supporting role in Beautiful Boy. I'm happy that Lady Gaga was nominated for Best Actress but she isn't going to win. She will win for Best Song. Lots of snubs this year- Bradley Cooper didn't get the nom for Director is one.

I've only ever watched the Oscars for the opening host monologues. They were always topical and very funny in my opinion. I guess we'll get none of that this year. I was never interested in who or what won the trophy as, from what I read, it is quite a political schmoozing process just to get a nomination. There seems to be a schism between art and popularity.

I will probably skip this year's broadcast. I was disappointed that Saoirse Roanan and Margot Robbie weren't nominated for Mary Queen of Scots. Viggo was nominated again, but I think it was just bait to get all the LOTR fans to watch. I know how these organizations operate. It's just a ploy to get the best ratings.

I don't think I've watched the Oscar's since One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest won. I was rooting for Jaws.
....the Oscars never win for their wieners.......always been a major Mayerstake.....

We actually saw three movies this past fall/winter:

- the one about Queen and Freddy Mercury (Bohemian Rhapsody); the one with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga (A Star is Born) and that other one which was more of a fantasy than anything - Fantastic Beasts: the Crimes of Grindelwald

If I can stay up that late I might watch the Oscars, otherwise will just record it.

I'm skipping the Academy Awards. I will probably use the time to do my income tax.
I'm behind in my taxes but it's okay because they owe ME money

So I saw this banner running across the bottom of the TV screen while the news was on this morning. It said "Queen to perform at Oscars"

My first thought was

Obviously I wasn't fully awake and hadn't had my coffee yet!

What Drake said about the Grammys also applies to the Oscars. If you're a successful entertainer and you have people with regular jobs coming to see your shows in the rain and snow, then you don't need an award. You've already won.

Jennifer Lawrence and Gwyneth Paltrow will never admit this, but if it weren't for Harvey Weinstein then they wouldn't be where they are today. Weinstein used his influence to get them their most important roles, and he personally lobbied for them to win their awards. That's why this whole thing makes me so sick.

Meryl Streep, the actress who has won the most Oscars, also had a working relationship with Harvey Weinstein. She once referred to him as "God." The fact that she chose his side and betrayed her own gender is unforgivable.

Don't want to get political here but here is a quote from an article regarding Meryl Streep and the Me Too movement:

"Although Streep has become increasingly more vocal since what was assumed to be initial silence, the questions have not abated, though she’s now eager for other women — specifically Melania and Ivanka Trump — to speak out next."

Meryl is from a different generation; I admire her acting skills and I don't blame her for not wanting to become embroiled in these debates.

It's too bad the Oscars have often become a forum for people to discuss political issues or whatever they feel to be unjust - I remember when Marlon Brando sent an "Indian Princess" (I think that is how she was referred to at the time) anyway - an Indigenous woman said she was speaking on his behalf and could not accept the award.

Anytime more than one person is in a room things are bound to get political. It's a way of life. It's never stopped me from watching the Oscar ceremony. I may not agree with what's being said but I still want to see the glitz and glamour.
