What if the pulse happened? Not the way it did in the book, but let's face it; Orwell's vision came true. The proverbial ghost in the machine has always been there to allow for human error.
People no longer converse with one and other. I rationalize the :hammer:fact that I'm here instead of writing or reading my book by saying that my situation is different. It's not, it's irrelevant. It is not acceptable for people to be so focused on technology that they forget about life.
Conversely, our electronic vices are probably healthier than other vices, my biggest worry is now that we are are less than vigilant about our security, does that leave us open to potential threat? I mean on a larger scale. Probably not:facepalm_smiley::frog: I would not laugh if anyone but the head off of my poodle mix, Sammy.

Hmmmmm...I would say that The Pulse...as imagined in the novel would not be a threat today. Yes, people are glued to their phones, but more so to play games, tweet and update facebook, snapchat and such. People really do not "talk" anymore.

I'm not anti-technology...but I'm over social media....a message board to voice one's concerns and interests is fine...but do I want to see pictures of someone's lunch or see what Kim Kardashian tweeted about the sunset! Not so much!

Now...if there were a virus that would hit Instagram and/or Twitter....we would all be doomed!

I think the main idea fer this was was the ol', "Yer gonna get a brain tumor from yer phone" theory. I haven't seen the film but I love Zombie's and this book is just about as close as King ever got to a zombie book. I've read so many bad reviews for the film... Could you guys tell me anything else positive about this movie?

I see 'The Cell' as a zombie book as well. I think the pulse happened a while ago when international communication became possible. Something to do with control of resources and herd management. I just re-read what I typed and decided that this is the last drink tonight. I rented some old 'Columbo's' from the library and will start watching them shortly. Oh...and just one more thing...(that's what Columbo always does).:abnormal:

Yes, one more thing The Cell once again I'm referring to the book here (I remember Columbo and I'm weary of the insinuation) but it began with a grotesque parody - the scene makes you laugh. The characters, while not the same people from other books, still people you'd relate to.
The point Im taking far too long to make is something about the connection I mentally made between the nature of cults and the folks who'd been "pulsed". That's the (one more thing) I'm reading Salem's Lot right now and Id like to get back to it.

Sorry to make you tired ma'am. I had Columbo discs from the library and went to watch them. If I was insinuating anything it's well over my head. All the best, mal.

It's not you, it's the little self talk that repeatedly says "you are reading to much into this". I'm sorry if my tone is not in sync here; there have been some depressing developments with respect to friends' health problems. The sum total of 2 plus 3.

I so wish I had that eye of his. I'd probably get all types of confessions with Columbo's eye.
To which proverbial "eye" are you referring? The Romani (gypsies) infamously misunderstood the third eye for a myriad of metaphysical, ancient, and or sundry purposes. It's the truth seeing eye, pretty easy to do with a teensy bit of intuition and a thorough understanding of body language, tells, and Kempo (hand signals).

I'm not a metaphysical person. For such conversations you want to speak to my mother. I took after dad. His right eye which was artificial. He used it very effectively in the role of Columbo.

I love Peter Falk. I wrote him a fan letter a year before he died, not knowing he was in the grips of Alzheimers. So, no answer back. I was so truly sad when we lost him.
