The Stand: Group Read & Discussion Poll

Hello, friends, I'm thinking about doing a book club discussion in September to commemorate the 40th anniversary of The Stand. I will be reading the 1978 version but you can read either version. There won't be but three meetings, one for each section: Part One, Part Two, Part Three. But, the thread will be open for anyone wanting to discuss their progress or anything they want to say about it. I think this will allow for the two different lengths and different paces of participating readers. If you can join us, that'd be great. I'm working on getting a game going, too. I'm going to draw character names from a hat and from a separate hat all the names of those participating. When we finish reading, I'll let everyone know who they got and whether they survived. Hopefully, I will be able to give prizes to the "survivors". If this sounds good to you, please take poll and comment. Thanks.

If we can generate enough interest I'd like to begin the first week of September. I'll post dates and times for meetings closer to time. I'm open to suggestions. Is 30 days enough time in between sections? That will give us about three months to complete. I'm considering how the holidays may interfere but we can navigate around those issues as they arise.

Heck yes, then! I'll be reading the original, too--not a huge fan of the rewrite.

I'm in!!! I will have to look and see if I can find my older copy. I really enjoyed the un-cut version because of all the gaps that get filled in - Frannie and her mom, Trashy & the Kid. I haven't read the original in forever, so I will give it a go. Thanks for organizing Doc!!

That's great. If I include myself, at this juncture, we have five committed. I hope we have a large group, it's going to be fun. I'm thinking of doing the name drawing at the beginning and I'll send out prizes after we complete book.

Just to piggy back. There will be a thread set up just for the discussion and will have a time that we are all online talking about the section. The thread will stay open, however for those who couldn't be "live" to read and comment on. Lots of fun!
