Question for Marsha
Just going back to The Talisman after a while, I was wondering, you might know more about what it was like with Black House, but was there any problems with publishing companies? I would assume that Peter and Steve were on different publishing contracts with seperate publishers, or were they with the same publisher? Or did Peter get permission to publish with another company?

They don't have exclusive contracts with their publishers so if they want to publish with someone else for new material, that's their right to do so. They went with the same publisher (although under a new corporate banner) as they'd published with for The Talisman. I don't know the specifics of the contracts but it seems likely that Random House may have still held the sequel rights.

Ah, and I take it that was the same with the overseas publishers, or would they just negotiate that on a country to country basis?

Again, it depends on how the original contracts were drawn up. If those included sequel rights, then that publisher would have first dibs. Steve and Peter happened to have the same agent for foreign rights and he would be the person to negotiate any contracts with publishers in other countries/languages.

The Talisman was oublished by Viking, which became a subsidary of the Penguin Group, and then Black House was published by Random House, which was a part of Penguin Random. Nope, no publishing issues there. :) Seems to be on a book to book contract.

Not exactly. Since the original publisher was merged with Random House and then became Penguin Random House, the contract itself could still have stipulated that sequels were to be published through them. It's still technically considered the same publisher.
