In this thread I'm expecting spoilers and don't want to be careful myself. So if you don't want to read them, you should wait until after reading the book to read this.

So I remember reading this a long time ago, in the late 80s, and I remember thinking what a creative fantasy adventure. Very inventive and distinctive from other things (I've read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy and this is in a category all its own in my experience). I also see some cross-pollination to the Dark Tower books. As I'm getting to the end, not quite there yet, I see again what I'd seen before: the great creativity and uniqueness of the story.

Anyway, I'm close to the end and looking forward to it.

So I'm not really sure I fully understand how the twinner thing works. In the case of Morgan, when he forced his way across at the rest stop, what's that about? He couldn't come across there if the other Morgan isn't there, and if he is he could just relax and cross. So what was that tearing a hole thing?

I also didn't understand the Jason appearing and working in Jack stuff either. I thought he was dead.

Then what was going on at The Depot in the territories? Morgan finds Anders, just after Jack and Richard left with the train. How is it that he can then be surprised at their early arrival at the end point? And how did Orson beat them to the end point when he was just arriving at the depot a few hours after they had left?

Finally, what was the deal with the weapons? How did they get them to the Territories? Uzis certainly weren't made there, they had to be carried across but when things were carried across, their form changed. But these didn't.

Those things confused me.

It's been a couple of years since my re-read.

The Uzis question, wasn't that what the "ripping" was about? Sloat ripping (wormhole type effect) a hole between the two worlds?

Very possible. But at one point, toward the end, it said he could only arive over there where his twinner was located, so how could he do that wormhole thing?

I can't honestly remember. But I can remember the picture I had in my mind of the first time he did it (near a stream??) when I read it the first time in the early 90's. My memory's weird like that.
