This is completely my abnormal take on the world-but this is how I envision most of corporate America.
 You are so right. At least partly, I am sure there are some people who genuinely care, but often, not. You are clued in. Every corporation has their own 'identity' and workers best fall in line with the current thinking or else.

Gosh-I don't know. The last few pages really surprised me. I had a hunch about Pearson's uneasiness, but not until it almost played out. I always like SK's descriptions of people in their everyday lives put in surreal circumstances.

Surprised me too. I didn't realize it was a trap until Pearson put it together. SK is incredibly talented to show the different layers in his story. The smokers, the corporate goons, the innocent yet deceived, the trusting, the power hungry, the regular people and a very strange situation. As always, refuge in a bookstore.

I felt there was something amiss when Pearson was getting increasingly uneasy, while everyone else was in awe of the speaker. Yet, I thought that his incessant watch checking had something to do with smoking, and not a possible double cross.

I was looking for threads that might branch out into other Stephen King stories, but couldn't really think of any. A couple of the names sounded familiar though.

Wow- I just deleted my whole reply due to this little in keyboard mouse. Crap. Starting again. I thought people were getting nicotine fits. I guessed maybe it would turn out everyone was a bat there and they were going to dissect Pearson and put him in the trunk. Morbid eh?
