We know people are not born into The True Knot because early in the book we read about Andrea being initiated into it. I think it's also mentioned a few times later in the book. And the group only initiates adults. But it's adults with an ability that they want or need.

So, are these adults the ones who shined as children?

Good question! It would seem like that is how they would be found (shining, I mean). Or maybe it's a combination of searching through the shining and lucky happening upon people with talents & skills the Knot needs?

I think also Andrea was using her powers regularly. (Since she was using them in a self-serving way it seems an appropriate assumption.). Dan, on the other hand, was using his to help others when they passed, and even where he worked, it was not a daily or even weekly occurance. Other then that, he usually tried to block it.

That's an interesting idea, I think you may be right. And when Rose was thinking about what to do with Abra, she thought about the idea of leaving her in True Knot... So, they really could use her powers for their good... But they turned only adults because they have less steam and less powers, when children have much more steam... Makes sense, I think...

Wilmington DE, strange little place.
King has never explained why Danny wasn't pursued by the 'low men'
as Dinky and ted were. It seems to me like there are NO low men in Dannie's universe.
It was also said in Dr. sleep , as they 'welcomed" Andrea into the group' that they wouldnt ''eat her"
because she would 'taste bad" . they wanted "eat" Abra , meaning she would taste good.
and she would make a monumental meal .

I cant remember is they said one way or another is Danny would taste good or not. ANYONE know?
