someone spoiled me on the midseason finale when i was still an episode behind so i just watched it yesterday. after all he's been through, that's how he dies? such a stupid and nothing reason to die. they're killing too many good people and elevating too many unlikable people. if they don't kill eugene soon, i swear . . .

I'm ok with someone having worked at a cure all this time somewhere in a facility secure enough to have held out ....
we see one in Atlanta, and the disease centers it was in communication with around the world that don't make it, but if we can have a Negan/Savior empire, we can have a provisional government restoring order and having found a cure for those not yet dead, and working slowly but surely, with a lot of bloody setbacks along the way, simple attrition and misadventure slowing things down. They finally reach where this little skirmish is playing out, shut it down, Negan, crafty enough, escaping, Rick catching up, putting him down, and the world begins the recovery process.
Basically wrapping it all up in the second half of this season in that fashion. The. End.

I hate to throw shade on Chandler's haircut, but two things:
1) We haven't seen him from the back and sides with short hair yet. Have we? If we have, please share pics. If it is short now...
2) There's nothing saying Carl can't cut his hair. Just because he hasn't doesn't mean he wouldn't. If he lives, a new 'do may reflect his new lease on life.

I know, I know. He's a goner.
But at least he makes it out of the sewer.
Here are some photos from the back half of 8, thanks to Entertainment Weekly:

Call me crazy, but he doesn't look dead. Unless those are flashbacks.
That's the thing about TWD. It could mean anything.

I am just holding out hope that they did not mess up storyline entirely.

Ebdim9th's post above started me wondering if they are going to surprise us and end the show after this season. Carl is either going to die or get cured. A cure with the show continuing would seem to be a cheat but not so much if the cure is the conclusion of the show. If Carl dies, that creates a terrible Rick character problem and it's hard to see Rick being able to go on. Also, I haven't read the comics but I've heard that this Carl story is a major departure from the comics. Such a radical change from the comics could be because they were looking for a way to end the show but the comics may keep going. It would be just like them not to warn us that the show is ending.

So, what did other TWD fans here make of the news that Scott M. Gimple has been/is being replaced as showrunner for S9 (by Angela Kang)?
OK, it's being floated that SMG has been 'promoted' to oversee all content...but nah. It's a new role, Kirkman's still around as exec prod and if that's a promotion then it's of the sideways, get-the-walking-cluster****-out-of-the-way variety. And tbh I expect to see the role scaled back, done away with, or SMG to 'leave amicably to pursue other creative endeavours' or some such after a decent period of time - probably 12-18 months, or, if he gets really ticked off, around 9.
It also makes me wonder what went on behind the scenes. It seems unlikely that SMG would go voluntarily (perhaps the reason for the new role), yet if he tried to play hardball with Gale Anne Hurd...well, there's only one winner there. She did threaten to sack the entire crew and replace them during the filming of Aliens, after all, and that was only over something as trifling as their daily tea breaks. Given the social media reaction to a lot of his decisions and tumbling ratings, maybe the seemingly-dormant exec prod(s) decided to stir herself/themselves and take action.

I don't like what they did, but this episode was well done. Not too much stupid, best acting Riggs has done in the entire show, and a good balance with the characters. If the season continues down this road, I'll be satisfied. Curious how they're going to
kill Maggie (childbirth, maybe?), since Lauren Conrad is already cast in another show for ABC, or so I've heard.

Yeah, I agree with you about his trumped up 'supervisory role'. I loathe some of the things that happened this season, but I was wondering if he was playing a long game with some of the big storylines (not crap like the RPG. That was plain asinine) and there would be a big payoff down the line. Guess we'll never know now.

Lauren Cohan is mulling walking away from The Walking Dead.
