I heard of a dad once who told his adult son he could either go to school and stay or get a job and pay rent. Those were the two options. When neither one was exercised, dad kicked him out, much to the mom's distress.
And you know what? Son is doing quite well for himself, devoted married family man, with a great management role for a major retailer. They don't talk about the tough times. They live in the comfortable present.

Heeeheehee, here's me stereotyping again...but when "weapons" were mentioned, my mind immediately went to swords and knives, a la Lord of the Rings.

It's one thing to live at home and contribute to the household financially and operationally. But living there, not contributing anything, and not working is another thing entirely. I was paying board to my parents as soon as I got my first part time job in HS.
Let's remember, some people have mental health issues and no where to go now except the streets. That's why our homeless population is so big. So some of these kids are freeloaders, some of these kids are working and saving for their own place but in the meantime, help the parentals and some aren't capable of living a life out there.
Yes, that should go without saying. I'd never disparage those with mental health issues. I've even seen sons (and daughters) in their thirties who move back to their parents' house because of divorce or an unseen catastrophic event. Many Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and something like a divorce could upset a delicate house of cards. A person's parents may be the very thing keeping them off the streets, like you said.
Exactly. I just wanted to throw that out that not all 30 year old people living at home want to but due to something happening in their lives, are forced to -- but, there is a difference between a freeloader who helps with nothing and those who contribute in some meaningful way.
Nooo! I am a collector geek, too. It is embarrassing how much stuff I have in a storage unit right now because I can’t fit it into my parents’ house, lol. I appreciate a good sword. I still play D&D.

So this guy has a child and no job. Deduction would indicate he pays no child support. If that is the case how is he not in jail for non-support, if he is capable of having a job? That certainly would get him out of his parent's house. There must be more to this than we are hearing.
I personally know a man who had a child. Did not pay one dime of child support while she was growing up and she's 30 now. He has never held a job. Never. Oh, he works odd jobs and he gets paid cash for them. He owns no home, no car -- nothing they can get. He has never been married, but has lived with a woman and since they are not married, they can't go after her money. The mother of the child has gone to the authorities over the years numerous times trying to get money from this turnip, but they come away with nothing and he isn't in jail. Explain that to me.
I can't. Maybe it has to do with the laws of the state he is in. In this state you go to jail for failure to make court ordered child support payments.

This is in NYS,no one will throw him into jail for failing to pay child support,eventually,after many warnings and tsk tsks,they may suspend his driver's license.Pretty much they hope the child grows up before anything actually has to be done.I think from the tone of this guy,it is pretty clear he just wants a meal ticket.

When my Mom and dad divorced, dad was supposed to pay something like a hundred dollars a month in child support. He never paid a dime. I told her to have him thrown in jail....they do that in NC and the bail includes the back support owed. Mom wouldn't do it because she said it would only hurt my brother to see his dad laying in jail.
