The woods are lovely dark and deep
I have been a fan of Alex Cross, Michael Bennett, and the Murder Club ladies since their inception. I told my sister about the Michael Bennett series and she has now fallen in love with his family and is faithfully trying to catch up. There is a new one, Bulls eye, coming out soon. For us, it is all about the characters. Mr. Patterson's other series for me, meh. I do love the way a chapter seems to just fly by!!

Lol I hated him, I guess it was a bad impression from the start. I'm also a manga reader and I first knew him from my friends who were fans of Maximum Ride. Honestly I hated the manga, the style didn't click with me. I read one of his novels later, 'Cross Country' and it was so bad. I loved the story line but the writing quality was just no. For example everyone knows detective Alex Cross is a family man, but while I was reading the novel I can actually feel that James Patterson was trying so hard to emphasis this and seriously that grossed me out. James Patterson has some terrific scenarios but needs to improve the way he gets the idea across to the readers. I found lots of really bad sentences in his books and it just got on my nerves....Sorry for the rambling but James Patterson just isn't for me.

put me in the meh category i guess. i don't dislike his stuff, it can be engaging. i am annoyed at how he seems to have placed himself on the throne of "most published/sold author ever" in light of his army of co-authors. seems like a cheap way to get that "record" similarly to an earlier poster, i gave up trying to keep up with his stuff a long time ago, because sometimes he hits double digits in a year. he's strictly on the buy from a used book store list, and there's only one particular bookstore i'll buy him from (well, it has 3 locations, 1 of which is convenient and 1 of which is on the way to a friends in KY). they have a lot of books for dirt cheap, one of the only places i've seen where the stock is huge and the prices can be as low as a nickel for a book in good condition if they have a lot of copies. if his books are say a buck fifty or under, in the cart. if they're over that, forget it, too many for those prices. for some reason, i haven't had a huge success rate at this, because as prolific as his books are, this place rarely prices them in a way that reflects their over-availability.

i will say that he's doing some good for reading, because his brand (not him personally) pumps out easy to read books at a breakneck pace, and apparently he does a lot of philanthropic things to promote literacy.

i might eventually read all of his stuff (i've read a lot of his early alex cross and a couple early women's murder club), but it's rather low on the priority list, and i'm getting a hold of the books rather randomly considering my self imposed buying restrictions.

I'm more than a meh. I read him - or thought it was him, until I saw a CBS Sunday Morning show.
It was terrible, not the show - him. It's a production, a scam. There he was with files and files of things he sends out to others. With a few first words from him.

And smiling , not worried at all about the Art of Writing.

His first 5 books are good and the first few of the Alex Cross books, but once he became the Andy Warhol (as in just signing his name to paintings done by others in The Factory) he lost all respect.

see those are really the only ones i've read, so i might be forced to downgrade him even further if i ever get to the other stuff. i think beyond alex cross and the women's murder club (which isn't even really written by him) it's entirely possible everything else is total drivel, based on what i've seen people say in various places.

He's a good read if you're at the beach and don't want to delve too deep into characters or storyline.
