Good Wednesday evening.

What three movies would you like to watch at a drive-in theater?

I'm thinking as I type...hmmmm.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Twister for sure. (In Twister, the movie shows The Shining being shown in a Drive-in theater!)

And...Tombstone.

What three movies would you like?

Thank you!

At first, I was thinking The Little Mermaid or The Nightmare Before Christmas. Then thought it would be really cool to see a movie that has a lot of outdoor, prairie-type scenes (since that's where I live and would be watching outside). So maybe films like Legends of the Fall, Dances with Wolves...movies like that.

Drive-in theatres don't exist in my country any more, but I'd love to see:

Superman - the real one, with Chris Reeve. This was the first real "movie" I ever saw. I was like 5. My brother took me to it, and it WAS at a drive-in theatre! Even after all these years, every time I see that scene where he first appears in full costume and flies towards the screen: man, no CGI could ever touch that. That's pure magic right there.

The Lord of the Rings - all 3 (I know, I'm cheating here)

IT - do I really need to explain this one?

There's a great old 1980's Australian movie set in "the future" of 1995, about a bunch of young people kept captive at a drive in movie theater, it's called "Dead End Drive-In". That would be perfect!

I'd also love to re-watch one of the very first "scary" movies I'd ever seen (at least it was horror to me), called "Bigfoot: Man or Beast", because I first saw this in a drive-in theater and was traumatized by it! I think it was 1972?

And finally, I gotta agree with you on TCM (Texas Chainsaw Massacre)!

We have an actual, working drive-in just over the hill. Sad to say, I have not been. I know, I'm awful. Next summer, maybe...

I can't think of any I'd like to see but I'll tell you about ones I did see. Back in the day, in Vegas. At a drive-in near the mountains. Went to see The Exorcist and, during the climactic scene, a thunder storm went on behind us. Great special effects by Mom. :D Never have found that movie as scary as some do.

Saw The Omen and enjoyed that. So I could get down with seeing it again in the outdoors.

Just out of high school, I worked at a movie theater. We had a kind of "exchange program" with a few other theaters, one of which was a drive-in near my home. I went to see Carrie. Alone. About jumped out of my skin at the end!

I'd go see those three movies at a drive-in again.

We have a double drive-in in town still. It's been there quite a while. The kids have wonderful memories of it. My daughter took her kids to it often as they (her kids) were growing up.

Sooooo.... here's the thing. I "got over" drive-ins a while back. I like to watch movies to watch movies, and I don't appreciate all the extraneous environmental noises that come with it. I just don't enjoy the drive-in anymore.

With that said, I remember when Grandma and I used to go to the double drive-in in Oceanside, CA, when I was stationed at Camp Pendleton. It was fun. We went to watch the R-rated (I think) version of "Flesh Gordon," and it was horrible and riotous. That was the one that sticks out (shut up!) because it was so far off the normal stuff we watched.

I also remember that some playful soul, when "MANDINGO" was playing at the drive-in there, climbed up to the roadside marquee and rearranged the letters to spell out "DONGMAN I." I thought it was brilliant.

Then back in hometown in Illinois, we used to go to the drive-in, and my childhood friend Curt would hide in the back (successfully) to get in free. Long story, already told in another thread a couple years ago. But anyway, I remember watching "Easy Rider" at the drive-in there.

I think, yeah, some cheesy '60s or '70s movies would be the right thing for the drive-in.

I have never been to a drive-in theater.
Bums me out I missed out on that, even though I read on FB that many of my friends still go to see movies that way, in various cities in the US.
For all this time I`m in Canada, I don`t recall ever seeing one. :(

It’s been over 30 years since I went to a Drive-In. I’d like to see Planet of the Apes (the first movie I saw at a drive-in back in ’69), Last of the Dogmen, and It.

I have a family owned and operated Drive-In located 5 minutes down the road from me (ranked 5th place in the 10 Best Drive-In’s). It opened in 1946. During the ‘70’s when Drive-In’s were shutting down across the country they switched to showing porno movies in order to survive. Then when the VHS make that business defunct they went back to showing regular movies. And the people of the area supported that move and helped them to survive and thrive. In 2005 they added a second smaller screen. It has a family atmosphere and hosts many other events, like car shows on weekends. They have to show family type movies on the second screen because you can see it from the road. Whenever I drive by in the evenings I like to see a little bit of what is showing on the screen.

I had considered seeing It the weekend it opened at the Drive-In (even though I am in solidarity with Ms Mod and boycotting the It movie. :)) when my youngest showed interest in seeing the movie. But she got quite sick and her boyfriend injured his knee in soccer and needed an operation. So we bagged the idea.

The weekend It opened they shut down the second screen area to host a Cub Scout Campout. Pennywise and little boys did not play well together from what I’ve been told. Stephen King isn’t liked very much from the Cub Scout leaders around here right now. I talked to someone who was there and said the movie turned the little guys into stark-raving lunatics. He said it was like trying to herd a pack of wild animals. Mayhem!

The wife says she might like seeing It at the Drive-In in her new Dodge Charger. Open up the sunroof and occasionally let a red balloon fly free. The problem is finding a free evening to see it. This weekend is out. I pick up my daughter from college Friday evening, work Saturday late, and take my daughter back Sunday evening. Sadly, there never seems to be any free time in the evenings for us.
