If you had a chance to go back in time for just one day to get one of kings books coming out which one would be.

I would go back and pick up the gunslinger. if I couldn't find it bc I heard back then a lot of people didn't know it even existed bc only few bookstores had it. I would get the stand for sure.

I'd go back and get Under the Dome 'cause that's when I went to a book signing in Atlanta and met Mr. King. One of my favorite days ever.
Did you have an out of body experience? :)
Did you say anything to him? If you go see him again you need someone to film it on your phone to rewatch later. I keep thinking of the Steve Martin gif you posted. I'm afraid if I tried to speak to him I'd sound like Jar Jar Binx.

Oh, I thought and thought about it for a long time before I finally decided what I would say to him that momentous day. I didn't want to say the same old things others had said. It had to be something he'd (probably) never heard before... I handed him that giant Under the Dome book, and he smiled up at me as he began signing it. I smiled back and asked, "So, is this your first book?" He looked at me with such mirth in his eyes, laughed and said, "Yeah! I'm just getting started!"
Then we got married and it's wonderful.

Seeing we're playing with time I think I would forego the book and pop up and save him before he got hit with the van. He would then thank me profusely and we would eventually become good friends. He would dedicate a book to me but the spelling of my name would be wrong, through no fault of his own, and we'd fall out because I'd blame him, and then I'd stop reading his books. In the not too distant future I'd find myself reflecting, during some winter evening while I am cooped up in some nursing home. I'd wonder "what ever became of Mr. King" and then more urgently "he owed me thirty bucks".

That actually sounds like an interesting premise for an independent movie. You'd have to make up a different writer character, of course.

In terms of the question, I would probably go with The Gunslinger as well in terms of value (I'm assuming those original copies are worth something). Not in terms of value, I'd probably get Night Shift in hardcover.

If I remember correctly, no bookstores carried The Gunslinger. It was available only from the publisher and some of the mail-order book sellers. That's where I got my copy--from a mail-order dealer.

Probably one of the early, first-edition paperbacks of one of the Bachman books, like Long Walk or The Running Man, before they were collected in the omnibus. Not really sure if they're rare or not, though.

Having been there and aware of every SK book that came out since Carrie in paperback, this is a fascinating question for me. Not only would it be a revisit of the book coming out but also of what I was doing in that place and time. Part of me wants to go back to the 14-year-old me discovering Carrie among all those other paperbacks in the rack at the drugstore where I bought it and part of me wants to revisit Bag of Bones (even though it's not my favorite by far) because that is SK's first book with his current publisher and I worked for them then. I didn't appreciate it enough at the time because to be honest I was kind of "tired" of him at that point. Yeah, I know.
