I read it in Rolling Stone circa 1984 and I'm pretty sure it was published in a collection after that. I wanna say it was made into a TV episode of some anthology series at some point, but maybe not...

I forget what leads up to it, possibly an argument with her clod of a husband, but a middle aged housewife gets shot in the forehead. She goes into her bathroom and looks closely at the bullet hole in the mirror, and then sticks an eyebrow pencil into the hole until it touches her brain. Then she goes and sits down in front of the TV, and a portrait of Jesus sitting on top of the TV starts talking to her and giving her instructions/commands. No recollection of what happened after that but I don't think there was much more to it. Very odd little story, curious to read it again now if I can find it.

I believe you are referring to the short story called The Revelations of Becka Paulson. It was made into an Outer Limits epiode. A different incarnation made it into King's 1988 novel The Tommyknockers.

The original story was published in Rolling Stone magazine July19/August 2, 1984 magazine as a stand-alone tale. A slightly different version was included in the novel Needful Things. It also made an appearance in the Scream/Press limited edition of Skeleton Crew, but it wasn't included in the Putnam hardback edition of Skeleton Crew.
