So I've been reading a lot today, I need to get through this book - DT 7, and the husband asks a few questions about where I am in the series, he checks in periodically. I find myself trying to explain the entire series. He's just got more questions, and gosh how I wish he was a reader - we'd have so much fun talking books (says the geeky book nerd wife). Anyhow, just give it try someday, explaining to someone who's never read King, and never read the tower books, explain "whens" and taheens and dogans and the beams and Shardik and Maturin (he loves turtles, so he likes that bit). It sounds crazy, and just begets more questions. Its fun though, and I am so hoping he's intrigued enough to want to read them.

I am very far behind on the Dark Tower series, having only read The Gunslinger and then part of the Wind through the Keyhole.

I do know what you mean though about being a reader married to a non-reader. I told him once that I enjoyed reading and it is something I could do on vacation. I got "the look" - sort of like "Are you nuts"?

I also used to think if I was rich I would just continue going to school to learn as much as possible as I love learning. Now that I am older I was thinking perhaps travelling might be just as enjoyable.

Same situation here :) M does like SK movies, though, and had me read The Stand aloud during a long car trip. One funny story, though: a few years ago, he and I were fortunate enough to have dinner with Ms. Mod, her daughter, and MStay. MStay brought along a gorgeous DT themed quilt she was making to show us. On the train on the way home, M wanted a full rundown of the series! I spent an hour talking and barely got a decent summary out. He (and the other passengers--lol) were entertained, though, so I felt pretty good about it ::P

Oh wow! How funny! I read The Stand aloud to my husband when we were newlyweds - every night I'd read him as much as I could stand to read out loud. He loved it, of course. And he loves all the movies too. I want to see that DT themed quilt! Is there a picture of it anywhere? On the old board, craft post maybe? @mstay - maybe she'll see it and share a picture. Awesome to meet her and Ms. Mod and daughter. Were you traveling through Maine? We hope to do that someday.

No, Ms. Mod & daughter were in our town for an evening. It was very nice! I think there were pics of the quilt on the old board--MStay is very talented!

I'm going to head over there and see. I wonder if there's such as that on pinterest. I'll look there too. I can copy things, but as far as creating any kind of art I am not talented at all. I am impressed with those folks who are.

...Tracy didn't find a blood pissing vampire very amusing...not like me anyhoo....
I forget about the scary parts most of the time and just get really involved with the story. Sometimes I still get scared, and sometimes I get a little nauseated
like when Mordred was born
. We're a bunch crazies around here, huh?

Tried this once with my girlfriend, but after saying "You know, you should read the Dark Tower, it's all about..." I realized that I clearly understood almost every phenomenon described in the book, but could not string two words together to explain them. Had to re-read the whole series and have no regrets about it.

I don't think I want to convert anyone to Stephen King's writing. Personally I love it and if someone asked me about it, I would defend my right to read his stuff and explain how great it is and not all just blood and gore.

However, trying to convince someone to read his work would feel like me going door to door and proselytizing - no thanks.

It really is a shame that they do not know what they are missing :nope:

Get him an audio book.
