Well I have been saying for years that this should be an HBO/Showtime show rather than a movie; so it is nice that the plans are now calling for a 8 episode series leading up to a movie.

I've always liked the mini-series as a format for adaptation, but I feel it's under-used. It allows for more development than a traditional film, but unlike a TV-series, it has a planned end, so you don't get the "filler" episodes, and the dragging on way past the point where it is no longer interesting.

The mini-series capped with film is the best of two worlds: you get all the development of a mini-series, and then the big budget payoff of a full-length movie. Could be good. *fingers crossed*

Aericanwizard, this COULD be good. BUT, there is so much to this book. Really there is a lot you just can't leave out or the story gets confusing and disjointed. All in all it will either be really good or really bad. Then there is the casting. Oh dear, don't get me started.

I don't know. Setting up a TV series that you have to see the climax to in a theater? That's a tough sell.

A more palatable option would be to open with a movie, play the movie on TV, follow with a miniseries, and then end with a movie.
