About a week ago I finished Under the Dome, in addition at the end of the book the survivors are stated... But there is no mention of Thurston Marshall - I'm sure he made to the very end. Does anyone know what actually happened to him?
- I haven't watched the TV series so maybe that accounts for something...

I am currently on a reread of Under the Dome and Thurston Marshall is the professor who is pressed into service at the Medical Centre and does an excellent job.

I hope he survives! Maybe Sai King just forgot to include his name in the list?!

Welcome to SKMB Bexocubic!

I recently finished Under the Dome (as in -not-even-ten-minutes-ago finished) and at the ending, it is explicitly stated that Thurston Marshall
"did not make it". He lives to be one of the remaining survivors while the dome is still in place, though afterwards he isn't among the living crowd. Unfortunate to me, because Thurse was one of my favorite characters in the novel. What I also noticed is that Stephen never explicitly stated that Big Jim (James P. Rennie) survived or not; whether Big Jim safely returned to the shelter and lived until pure air swept Chester's Mill (or rather, the remains thereof) seems to be unknown.

Thank you for the spoiler, (whichever moderator added it). I will not open it. I forgot how spoilers can mess up the ending of something (even on a reread)

It does pretty much explain what happens to Jim Rennie, however what I'm referring to is that although it does not mention
Thurston Marshall at the end - prior to that it doesn't mention whether he dies whilst they're at the Dome edge. It mentions how he is cradling the small boy and then that's it...

When I was reading this book I was hoping
he'd survive to stand before the court. I mean the files into the Brenda's computer make sense then.

Two years late to the thread, but here I am (just having finished reading the book).

As someone already mentioned before, the book does include his fate.

In "Survivors" - 14, we have this:

At just past one o'clock, Rose Twitchell shakes Barbie awake.

"Thurston Marshall is dead," she says. "Rusty and my brother are putting the body under the ambulance so the little girl won't be too upset when she wakes up."

So everything was included in two or three lines. If this book kept you awake late turning "one more page" even if you were too sleepy, they were easy to miss. =D

Ok, I thought I was losing my mind, reading this, because I remembered the couple sentences you quoted!

They clearly state what happened to him, although I could not blame someone for perhaps even skipping them without noticing it if was too late at night. I remember trying to read even after I am more than a little sleepy, but it all becomes fuzzy and I'd rather quit and then re-read that section the following day. It's easy to miss important bits of info when one wishes to keep reading forever. ;DD
