For some reason, this is a really fun one to watch. It not only is based on a good novella, but it also has solid cinematography that creates a nice atmosphere, an appropriate sense of pace, and an overall feeling of entertainment. I enjoy the look of the locations as well.

Whenever it is on, I tend to stop what I am doing and watch. Strangely, I seem to usually forget the changes made to the story in this adaptation of the Four Past Midnight tale, so when I watch it again, it's like watching it new all over again. This is definitely one of the better adaptations.

I agree, Rrty. I think Johnny Depp plays the Mort Rainey role convincingly. And I really like his hair here:

I also love Maria Bello.

Does anyone remember when Mort Rainey started to make yawning movements with his mouth for no reason? I don't know why but this was creepy to me. I don't think it was in the novella. Perhaps Depp came up with this tick for the character. I loved this movie and loved it when Four Past Midnight first came out.

Very good point. Yeah I think that was his or the directors subtle way of letting you know that Mort was kind of losing his stuff. I didn't think much of it when I first saw the movie. During the second time I watched it and knew the ending I thought, "Oh yeah that's not good at all".
