Ok I just got done listing to the Shining. What can I say..hmm well first I really like it. I have heard that many people thought it was straight forward for me it was not. I know everyone gets something different from every book they read. I felt it was just much about the darkness of the hotel has well has addiction.

I like the character Jack even thou he was the biggest ass. He was broken and all to human. He was stuck in way so many become stuck. He had touch of fame for moment but was never able to break thru...never be want he wanted to be. I almost felt like he drank to drown out how he was unable be famous that he just couldn't be happy and normal and blame himself or the world.

In a way all characters where flawed. But it was the human part of them that made the book wonderful. I was creep out when the hedges did their thing. I may never really understand why it happen. What drew out the darkness and what cause it. What makes them go nuts. But I don't need to know it makes more creepy. I really did enjoy it

There is a lot going on in The Shining and you can probably read it many different ways. Like whether it is places or people that are haunted. Jack is certainly haunted by alcoholism, responsibility as a father and making ends meet etc. His demons are largely a product of his own issues. Danny, however, is sort of a psychic battery for the evil spirits in the Overlook. He is haunted by the evil around him. He can bring them to life in ways that others can't. Dick Hollarann, for example, can bring them alive just enough to be harmless images. Jack's troubles and Danny's abilities create a lethal combination.
