Well, this is unexpected, but I can dig it!

In this case, I'm talking about fans, people who have read the books, including one of the posters on this board, who I will not name, but who has gone on record as saying that he expects changes and knows that the racial stuff probably was never going to be translated to the screen anyway.
I think the amount of stuff that will wind up being left out of Akiva's The Dark Tower adaptation is going to be beyond jarring for any person that's read the books.

I'll be surprised if this looks/feels is much like The Dark Tower beyond a guy named Roland's journey to a tower, chasing down a man in black. Like Under the Dome, some of the characters will have familiar names, some basic plot ideas will be taken, that's probably gonna be about it.

And this is why I really hope this project withers and dies, and Howard and Grazer decide to move on. There's a writer named Daniel Knauf who created the short-lived (but amazing) series Carnivale, and I think he would be an excellent choice to write this thing. As for directors, there are many who'd be fine, but I'm tempted to go with Tarsem Singh.

I can see why George Lucas mocks Hollywood these days. The whole thing is so bloated and warped its near impossible to get a great film these days. I can see why people were pessimistic about this project even when I was trying to push the idea of this film constantly. In the wrong hands its gonna be a mess. Even if they put it out and it sucks, they probably aren't going to care, as long as it brings in some coin.

I've decided that at this point, I don't want to see it.
I keep having flashbacks of Kubrick's version of The Shining. While it was a good film if you had never read the book, it didn't look much like the original story when all was said and done. I'll never understand the concept of changing something just because you can.....nope, I don't want to see an altered version of The Dark Tower, Roland, the Ka-Tet, or the journey.

I can accept that changes will be made. Heck, they'll be necessary. Peter Jackson made some changes to The Lord of the Rings. Some I liked, some I didn't, but I could live with all of them.

One key thing is: he left the main characters alone. I don't have to stretch my imagination very far to read the book and picture the characters looking as they did in the movie, speaking like they did. It was like Tolkien's world had leapt off the page fully realized.

This movie is going to feel like a play loosely based on The Dark Tower, assuming Elba is their man.
