I have tried really hard to like 2001 -- I read the book too and I've watched the movie many times, I think it's just too smart for me. The segment with H.A.L. is very good and I like that, but the rest (although I do like when they are on the transport craft and the stewardesses are moving through the cabin--all that futuristic stuff is fun!)

My first response is that nothing is too smart for you. My second is that I'll PM you, as it will contain spoilers. :)

My Charlie Brown Christmas Story:

It was right before The Gulf War started so we are talking like early 90's. So my daughter was on her very first viewing of A CB Christmas, at least at an age she could appreciate and understand it, if you know what I mean. Anyway......she's loving it and the end is getting near and you all know the song that they sing after the big ole MERRY CHRISTMAS CHARLIE BROWN!! part right? Well, me and my better half are getting ready to sing with our 3 year old blond haired princess when they cut over the audio of the song to tell us that at 11 o' clock WE CAN FIND OUT ALL THE LATEST ON IRAQ KUWAIT AND FU**KALL!!

Well, we were bombarded by the war stuff all that fall and I thought to myself and said to my wife that THEY CAN"T LET A KIDS BELOVED SHOW FINISH WITHOUT BRINGING UP THE DAMN WAR! (Can you tell I was mad?). So, I got the phone, dialed information and got the number to WHDH TV (or whatever it was at that point) in BOSTON to voice my displeasure. Umm......actually......YELL my displeasure!!

I worked my way up from secretary all the way up to the acting station manager who was working that night. And do you know what? They agreed with me! "It was awful, an oversight, stupid, uncaring and so on......." I told them that they had ruined the show for us (and the tape of it I was making because I knew this would be viewed a thousand times more before Santa visited-I wonder what happened to that tape?)

When I was finished, getting my point across shall we say? My little angel gave me a goodnight kiss and my wife called me her hero...........

We still watch A Charlie Brown Christmas every year, even though the kids are grown. I keep the phone close at hand in case there is this violation again. Because I know there is a little girl or boy out there watching CB for the very first time.

How ignorant of them! Does anyone pay attention to their jobs? To the details of things? This is a kid's show and they interrupted with war talk. Unbelievable. Good for you for calling them on it.

it's the same with 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer'. Even as a small child i knew that what they were saying and doing to him was rotten....Santa Claus was truly sh*tty to him, until he needed him, right? And then that 'fault' was just perfect wasn't it?

We've talked about this before on the board. My opinion on it was that it was teaching the everyone has a talent and is valuable, so don't judge lesson. I honestly had never seen it from the other perspective before.

My kids have never seen Charlie Brown. We don't get ABC here. I should rent it for them this year.

It's so like human beings to take a sweet message about love and sh*t their negativity all over it. Seriously? Why did that have to be announced at all???

Absolutely it was teaching that everyone has something to offer, but the fact that Santa judged -- bully! lol
