My kid is playing final fantasy XIV and I am watching. First, I'd like to give a massive shoutout to the creators for the detail and creativity. It is just amazing work. The time and teamwork this took is massive.

Second, there is too much damn information on the screen, bars and charts and maps, and grids, and words and compasses. I don't know how the f we are supposed to see all that beautiful work.

Third, I absolutely love the other people running around playing this game. We got to some room in the story and I swear, there were like 733 people all standing around with little nametags over their heads. It was crowded as hell and nobody was doing a thing. I asked my kid, what are all these people doing?

Apparently they are socializing.

When we watch other gamers play games, I am a huge critic of their gameplay. Grumbling at their idiotic choices. I sit all arrogant on my couch. But, I do not critique my child as he will get up and leave. And then I'm all by myself wondering what the hell happened to my life.

I will not lie, if I was playing, I would not make it 5 minutes into ANY game without using up my death quota. I would never see the game because I couldn't
get past the opening run down the street.

Final Fantasy always felt like the most overrated game series out there to me, I suppose I can’t call it generic when it set the standard for early RPG’s but each one feels no different than the last.

It’s my love-hate relationship with RPG’s, the ones that do something different either stylistically or gameplay-wise (Pokémon, Mother, Persona, Paper Mario/super Mario rpg, Shin Megumi Tensei (however that’s spelt)), are all memorable and distinct, compared to all the others that are just copy and paste Dungeons and Dragons.

If a sadistic clown were to ever murder me, I’d hope he’d be wearing this

I am watching a gamer named Keith Ballard play Rusty Lake Hotel, Roots and Paradise plus all the Cube Escape games that go with this series.

I love it. So much fun to figure out this weird little story. Lots of puzzles to solve. It's just bizarre, creepy and odd.

Keith drives me insane as I'm screaming at him what to do. The most obvious things take him forever to get and the really abstract harder things he gets in a snap.

Also, a lot of gamers will play little snippets of games and give a video of 3 Random Games or 5 Random Games. I enjoy that. Get a look at lots of different types of games from established and up and coming developers, students, average joe blows trying their hand at making a playable game. Some are good, some are huge fails. And the video gamers critiquing them are, for the most part, pretty honest about their feelings. Some are short enough for a complete play through and sometimes we just get a taste of a larger work. But enough to know if it has potential or not.

Markiplier, John Wolfe and Jacksepticemia (okay, that's not his name but that's what I call him. He's really jacksepticeye. I think jack septicemia is better) anyway, they are the ones who do these random games that I watch. I've tried to watch a guy called Mr. Kravin but he's a little lackluster. While Mark and Jack are too over the top.

But, they all make a very good living and have a bazillion followers, so, they've got their fingers on the heartbeat of gaming.

Scary Game Squad is my favorite bunch to watch play led by Jesse Cox.
