I have avoided spoilers about The Last of Us 2 so far so if you post some here, please use the spoiler tag. :)

I have not gamed in months. I got the Uncharted 1, 2 and 3 games a few weeks ago, while they were free. Have played them all but wanted them for the PS4, I have them for the 3.

Want to get back into Fallout 76 again too, now that NPCs have been added.
My friend, I will not mention any spoliers about The Last of Us 2 unless someone wants to tlk about it, and if so, yes, I will use the spoilers. But I will tell you this, If you enjoyed the first game then AVOID this at all cost, do not give them anything, vote with your wallet. That is all. :)

Supposedly The Last of Us 2 leaks were put out by a disgruntled naughty dog emplyee.
Do not believe anything Naughty Dog tells you about this being hackers, they are trying to protect thier publicity.

We are getting it. I don't usually judge anything on other's opinions, and gamers are harder and harder to please. ;) If the mechanics all work and it allows for a few hours of entertainment, it will be fine by me. Plus I have a kid who absolutely loves the first game, has played it through I can't tell you how many times. There is no way he is going to not want to play the new one.

I won't. Been seeing "warnings" all over but still, no one really knows until it is out and can be played.
Well the thing about the spoilers is that the leaks had game quality footage and screenshots, so it's without question that it is fact, they wouldn't have game quality footage from the game without somehow inflitrating Naughty Dog's servers.

I get that. But it is the motivation factor...why? I just don't get it. Disgruntled employee, whatever. If it gets released and tanks, fine. But to try to tank something before it is released is just a sucky move on the person who did it. People still have worked hard on it and that isn't fair to anyone, creator or consumer.

If we get it and hate it, fine, we hate it. Won't be the first time and won't be the last time. But it is not going to ruin my day or my week or anything.

Rumor has it that this employee was not happy with the creative direction of the game, so he decided to leak the footage in the hope that possibly Naughty Dog would listen to the backlash and make changes. It wouldn't be unheard of, its happenned before, developers should listen to their fans. Naughty Dog has postponed the release of The Last of Us 2 on several occassions, what would be the harm in postponing it for another year? So that they get the gane right?

I think waiting until the game is practically done is an invalid protest. Why not while it was in the planning/development stage? I would tell that employee to go start his own company if he is so smart. I know it has been postponed a few times already...but his name is not on the company letterhead. Not his place to ruin other people's hard work. It is a selfish move.

So let me ask you this, what if I tell you in a few months that it is not that bad or even a good game? Or not even me, other gamers? Would my (or theirs) opinions carry as much weight or have you made up your mind?

Is the "backlash" because of story or game mechanics? You can tell me that without spoiling anything.

The backlash has to do with certain stroy decisions yes. I'm not saying that it still could be a good game, it may be. I just have, after knowing these decisions, made up my mind that I will not be getting this game. So yes, my mind is made up, even if it is a good game regardless.

developers should listen to their fans.
Mixed bag with that one, if fans don't like the game or have legitimate reason to be concerned, sure. But then there are the fans who harassed Masahiro Sakurai on social media to the ends of earth because the wanted Waluigi in Smash for a stupid meme when he constantly stated he has no plans of making him a dlc character.

To be fair, the fans are what enable the developers to continue making games.

Then there's Pokémon Sword and Shield, probably the first time I decided not to get the new game in a series I enjoy greatly, that game was so unfinished and filled to the brim with lies, no way was I spending $60 on it. Now, I'm not going to support some of the more extreme backlash by fans, like the death threats and harassment to the developers. But at the same time, it's not like they didn't constantly lie or tell half-truths about what the game was going to be like.

I remember being excited for Kirby Star Allies because Kirby is a game series I enjoy greatly, despite it being targeted at younger players. I don't expect Kirby games to be hard, I really don't, but I at least expect them to be worth my time. Star Allies was 6 hours long. 6 hours. Little to no side content, and it cost $60. That's one problem I have with AAA developers, they always have a set price for all their games instead of having some analysis on will the game be worth what people are playing. All the games I've put the most time into are within the $15-$40 price range. I still love Nintendo to death, they're my favorite company that does anything. But dear god, when they mess up, they mess up.

Sigh ... Ubisoft and others of that like are basically everything wrong with the gaming industry.

Well knowing it is story driven just makes me more likely to get it. If the game was buggy then I would agree they should take time to fix it.

Saying I am not buying it because someone doesn't like the story? That would be like saying so and so didn't like the new Stephen King book so I guess I'll skip it. Not happening.

All this controversy is just free publicity for Naughty Dog and the game. Just my opinion.

Of course, and concerns should be taken. But there's a difference about concern on where the game was going, and harassing the game's director to death because he doesn't want a specific character in the game he created. Yeah, it kinda sucks because Wario isn't playable. But I mean, he already listens to fans, most of the new characters in Smash were ones fans have been requesting for a decade and a half. Ridley from Metroid, King K. Rool from DK Country, Inkling from Splatoon. He truly does care about the community, and what they want. But even I think that Waluigi wouldn't be very exciting to play as a dlc character, he'd just be a Luigi Echo fighter probably.

But at the same time, to quote Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda

Games do take a long time to develop, and rushing just to get it out there is a mistake. Cuphead got delayed multiple times over the span of it's nearly 10 year development history, but because everyone working on it truly cared about making a quality product, it was eventually released and was an incredible and completely unique game. I'd rather wait a longer time for a game to be released if I knew if it was released when it was first intended it was going to be incomplete.

I agree, to a point. If the game has multiple bugs, it needs to be fixed. It has to be playable. But if a storyline was pitched way back when and that is what they went with, I see no point in starting over. Not everyone is going to like every story, every time, and scrapping the storyline pretty much means scrapping the entire game and starting over.

The release date has been pushed back a few times already. I try to avoid knowing too much about anything, tv, movies, books, games...because I prefer to experience it myself but I guess I assumed the delays were due to gameplay being buggy rather than the storyline.
