What is/are a Sloppy Joe(s) ?

Kinda hard to describe them. It's like loose meat in some kind of sauce served on a hamburger bun. They're very messy (hence the name Sloppy Joe) and have always been popular among those who were less "well off" financially. I grew up eating them and can't stand the thought of ever eating another one.
Yeah, I'd define it as a loose meat sandwich, too. Ground beef fried in a skillet and cooked in a sweetened and mildly spicy tomato sauce. Not quite a spaghetti sauce but close in taste and texture. Usually, I make mine with Manwich (sp?), which is in a can, and they are quite sweet have a strong green bell pepper aftertaste.

Thank you.
It sounds yummy, not like a dish for "well off" people, just like a quick meal.

I love sloppy joes! I never thought it was for the less 'well off'.

Something with chicken. My in-laws are cooking tonight :)
Lucky you! I wish I could get someone else to cook for a change

Right now I'm roasting chicken legs (the whole leg, with bone in and skin on) with chopped up carrots, broccoli, onion and a sprinkling of paprika and garlic salt. It's in a roast pan in the oven at 325 for about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Think I'll take the lid off near the end so the skin can crisp up a bit.

I put some boiling water in the bottom of the pan and put a lid on it, but I don't like soggy chicken skin.

Suppose I could always put in under the broiler near the end to crisp up the skin.

Found a good recipe on-line from Rachel Ray for Chicken Tetrazzini - uses egg noodles, cauliflower, a cheese sauce and left over chicken (I used already cooked thighs). Just cut them up into chunks.

The cheese sauce was easy to make and the egg noodles only take a few minutes to cook. Luckily I had already partially cooked cauliflower in the fridge.

You put it all in a greased casserole dish, sprinkle a bit of grated cheese and bread crumbs on top, then cook in the oven until bubbly. I added some turmeric, parsley and poultry seasoning - hope it turns out okay!

Tonight is what I call Hamburg Stew and what Andy calls "mince 'n tatties"

- just lean ground beef with some minced onion and a bit of salt and pepper (maybe a bit of garlic salt and a dash of Montreal steak spice). You brown it, then add about a cup of frozen corn, some boiled water so it's sort of sloppy then thicken it up with Bisto mixed with cold water.

Serve on top of mashed potatoes with a side salad and a slice or two of bread.

Easy and simple but quite good - I grew up eating this so it's comfort food.

The only difference between the original recipe and mine is the addition of the corn (or "sweet corn" as they call it over there)

Leftovers from last night. I made up a nice marinara suffused with vegetables and shrimp, and Grandma proclaimed it delicious. I served it up over Asian noodles instead of pasta, and that worked out well too. I'm looking forward to tonight, because soups, stews, and sauces are often better the second night.
