It is at that Doc. Waylon Jennings, George Jones, Merle Haggard, all the older country music never ceases to make me think back to growing up in such a rural area and how good we had it back then living in such a small town. Your home state produced one of my favorite country bands of all time, "Alabama". That is hands down my dad's favorite band of all time. I can remember going out and looking for a Christmas tree with him listening to the 8-track "Mountain Music" when I was kid....not much Rock 'N Roll where I grew up..lol
Absolutely agree. I was just playing "There's No Way" by them yesterday. One of their best songs, IMO. "Dixieland Delight", "Roll On", and a few others take me back to the early eighties and, like you said, the sheer joy and simplicity of life. Many good times and Alabama were like royalty, they still are.
I think we are close in age and, apparently, have a lot in common with music, culture, family traditions, and Stephen King, of course.
Most definitely Doc, and your college football team has always been my surrogate favorite since my home state team has always sucked for the most part, especially nowadays...lol. We also share the same name if I remember correctly sir.
Before my sister was born, my mom, dad, and I would occasionally drive over to the "Big City" of Hot Springs, AR, about 50 miles away, to eat at a fancy restaurant like Pizza Hut or Wendy's..lol
I would sit in the middle of our Ford F150 pickup between my mom and dad and usually drift off to sleep leaned up against my mom on the way home listening to my dad quietly sing along to Alabama songs on the 8 track player.
How come all threads, no matter what subject, at some point have Bacon in them??

This was me too, only my dad was siging to 8 track Jim Reeves and driving a cadillac.
Mostly old C & W where I grew up. Good example of where I grew up...I had my Van Halen 1984 album confiscated by one of my elementary school teachers because of the front cover of the cassette. You know the pic I'm talking about I bet sir....lol Told me it was the most offensive picture she'd ever seen. I was sent to the Principal's office over it. The principal...hand to God, sits back in his office chair, lights a CIGARETTE IN HIS OFFICE, looks at the album, laughs out loud and tells me to take it home and don't bring it back.
At least you remember 8-tracks....curious of how many members of the board we completely lost on that reference...lol

Can't ever remember another school principal who'd patrol the halls of the school with a Marlboro Red hanging out of his mouth...lol

....I had one that would stalk the hallways with paddle in hand, then on break, burn a coupla coffin nails the "lounge".....
Remember when the teacher's room door would open and this thick blue cloud would waft out? I wonder how much second hand smoke kids choked on walking by that place.
