Finished Tudors by Peter Ackroyd. The second in his History of England Series. The First was Foundation that started with William the Conqueror and ended with Richard III. This one cover the Tudor dynasty and is, rightly so, focused on Henry VIII and Elisabeth, a bit to little on Henry VII otherwise quite good. Above all he takes Elisabeth as a regent seriously which, i am sad to say, not all historians do. Some have a tendency to treat her as leaving the country to her advisors(first among them William Cecil, Lord Leicester, and Sir Christopher Hatton) and concerning herself with flirts, hunting and dancing. Ridicolous that thoughts like that still exists in modern history books. Ackroyd avoids this error. Shall continue in due time to the third part in his series. Its called Civil War and cover the Stuarts until James II. That is James I, Charles I, The Interregnum (the two Cromwells) and Charles II. An interesting time in english history. After that it starts to be to modern for me. I mean William and Mary, Queen Anne and the Hannovers (all those kings named George) that followed are rather dull.

Driving To Geronimo's Grave - Joe Lansdale

A collection of 6 short stories that aren't quite novellas (they are around 40-50 pages each). I like it so far (I've read 4 of the 6). There's quite a variety here. Of the 4 that I've read, 1 is a depression era tale, there are a couple of science fiction-ish tales and 1 is a coming of age story.

Recently finished:

Station Eleven - Emily St John Mandell

I liked this one quite a bit. It's a world destroyed by flu tale (sound familiar so far? :)) but it has some interesting differences from most of these type of stories. For one, a good portion of the story is about some characters that didn't even survive the flu outbreak. Also, most of the survivors have settled into communities and are (more or less) comfortable where they are and scared to move around. The story is mainly about a traveling theater group that goes from town to town and performs plays and music in the different communities.

Amityville Horrible - Kelley Armstrong

Humorous and suspenseful novella about a spiritualist doing a reality TV ghost show.
Loves me some Lansdale!

I just started The Girls by Emma Cline. I've read many bad reviews about her wordiness but I'm liking it. Sometimes you have to use a lot of words to get "there".

Deep inside The Vanishing now, like 230 out of 380 pages deep. I really like this one, better than The Academy and hopefully he ties it up nicely too. I know i should put the book down, turn off the light but i just want to find out whats gonna happen...... I mean, there is work tomorrow, but just a few pages more can't hurt, can they??.

Finished The Academy by Bentley Little. Good buildup but the finale wasn't quite as good as it should have been. All in all it was an interesting story and i liked it,
Started the Vanishing by the same author.

Have you read The Consultant? I really liked The Consultant but some didn't think it was top-notch Bentley (I disagree). The Consultant is about the stupidity of the things consultants suggest to make the workplace more productive. If you think calling you co-workers teammates is the stupidest thing ever, you will love The Consultant. :)
