I read Girls of Paper and Fire. It was one of those James Patterson Presents books. I don't think it should've been classified as YA because of the sexual violence and war scenes which might be disturbing for a lot of adolescents. If I were a teenage girl then that novel would've scarred me for life. There are also lesbian scenes which some young readers might not be comfortable with. I've noticed that most publishers never include the fact that a protagonist is gay in the synopsis of a book jacket.

Gay characters are the biggest trend with young adult novels, trust me

Why throw a label on someone? I think that 'gay' just isn't a big deal to the younger generation anymore and that sexuality is much more fluid with them. Stephen King himself has gay characters in his novels and their sexuality isn't mentioned on the jackets either. Heck, one of them is in Cell and we didn't even know it until about halfway through the story as it just wasn't a big deal.

Just got the book "I Got This" by Jennifer Hudson - her story of how she lost weight - I'm hoping it will be worth reading (but since it's just from the library, no great loss if it's not a page turner).

I feel like SOS is hit a real slow point. It’s only 400 pages yet I haven’t progressed beyond the gas station shootout, despite finally getting some more action with characters other than Susannah/Mia after a rather slow part of the book it doesn’t need nessecarily feel compelling. I want to go and read Duma Key but would hate to start a new book without finishing the one I’m on, especially so close to the end. I still enjoy the series but I’m having trouble reigniting the interest I had reading the previous books, the castle allure chapter was just too much new concepts crammed into one chapter.

It is no disrespect to the journey to stop and read another book. If Duma Key is calling, go forth. You'll come back, the beam will guide you on the path. The journey will continue. By the way-- Duma Key will "blow" you away!

I would like to have the mind set of that, the problem is I’m one of those people who has trouble reading with the thought of an unfinished book lying around. I took a break after wastelands to read needful things, and was fine, but that was because I wasn’t so late in the series and had already finished the previous book. Thanks for your input anyways, I appreciate it

The last two books travel at a different pace than the others. Take your time moving forward in SOS. The rewards will be grand. Oh to be taking this journey for the first time---- savor it. You are in for a true adventure within this book.

I read Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I can see why this was never made into a movie. The main character is so boring. She spends most of her time in her dorm room writing fan fiction while her sister and her roommate have all the fun. When Rowell includes excerpts of Cath's fan fiction, it just seems like she's plagiarizing Harry Potter. After I finished this novel, I gained a new appreciation for J.K. Rowling.

I am reading George RR Martin's Targaryen prequel, Fire and Blood. It is written as if a Maester was recording the history so I am not 100% loving it. Parts are really good, like a movie in my head. But parts of it are like reading the Bible, this person begat this person who begat so and so....too many flipping names. :biggrin2: I am only about 90 pages in.

Also reading pt 3 of The Stand for group. Still trying to catch up on the short stories I missed for that group!
