Yeah, I haven't seen Nightbreed (or any other movie based on Barker's work, aside from Hellraiser...) I'm saving the short stories for later--I have them in a Books of Blood omnibus. Can't wait to get to them, though. :D
Clive certainly set the horror world on its *ss when those BoB were published. Everyone was talking about the new kid on the block. Stephen even says that 'he makes the rest of us look like we've been asleep' or something to that effect besides this one: 'I have seen the future of horror and it is Clive Barker'. Clive was hot, hot, hot for quite a while and then he cooled off. I used to get all of his books and comics but after he went into fantasy and not so much horror I jumped off of the wagon.

You might want to start with his collections of short stories- The Books Of Blood (there's two or three volumes of these in the US), Cabal, The Inhuman Condition or In The Flesh. His stories are fresh and original. He also has the original novella The Hellbound Heart in Night Vision 3, which was the basis for the movie Hellraiser. As for a novel, I would try The Damnation Game. It's his first novel and he hit it out of the park!

Thank you! I'm not a big fan of short stories, so will try to seek out The Damnation Game. I appreciate the rec! ;DD

Oh, and to answer the question of what I'm reading, Right now I've got The Martian as my pooper reader, Healer by F. Paul Wilson in my car when I go to Dr. Offices, American Psycho is on audiobook while I'm driving, and I just finished Christian Nation by Frederic C Rich. (This one is every bit as frightening as Handmaid's Tale. Imagine it as the prologue.)

I don't know what my next one is going to be. I need something shortish so I can start Sleeping Beauties next week. I'm at a total loss.

Re-read The Wreck of the River of Stars

It`s a wonderful Book.
It is character driven but with a strong overarching plot.
The science is clear and coherent and the characters are believable and portrayed with a wise insigh

I looked up The Wreck of the River of Stars on Amazon. It looks good. Eifelheim, also by Michael Flynn, looks good too.

There aren't many authors capable of writing hard sci-fy. My favorite hard sci-fi novel is Dragon's Egg by Robert Forward. Forward even explained the science behind the story at the end of the novel. I did not understand the science but I loved the story anyways. Did you ever watch Star Trek: Voyager? The episode Blink of an Eye was inspired by Dragon's Egg.

My favorite novel by Clive Barker is Weaveworld. It doesn't seem to be anyone else's favorite though. Any reason for that?

Last night I started The Girl With All Of The Gifts. Read about 60 pages. It's an interesting read so far. Much more so than Prince Lestat was.

I enjoyed The Girl with All of the Gifts. It was different and I was anxious to find out how it ended. I havn't seen the movie, have any of y'all seen the movie?

(I'm catching up on reading this thread's posts lol)

So I finished the rather excellent SAND by Hugh Howey, love his work.
Rattled off The Call of Cthulu by Lovecraft, not really sure what all the fuss is about tbh.

Also, just booked my ticket to go meet Joe Hill in Birmingham for his book signing event there! It's a good 3 hour drive from where I live, then when I looked after booking, he is doing more dates closer to home :a11:
