I was able to persuade my mother to read one Stephen King novel: The Shining. She said the woman in room 217 scared her so bad that she, to this day, needs a few lights on to sleep. My sister won't even try one. She says she's still frightened from my merely explaining parts of Gerald's Game to her when we were teenagers. As her brother, this delights me to no end. Heheheheh
They don't know what they are missing.

My mother was quite literally on her death bed. She was voraciously reading book after book, like she was trying to stuff her brain with knowledge and stories before she wouldn't be here to read and learn one more thing.

She knew my love for SK and she asked me to bring her a Stephen King book as she had never read one and wanted to.

She died before she could read it, it was sitting on her nightstand. It was Salem's Lot, my first SK read.

That's touching how she was willing to connect with you concerning a writer she knew you greatly admired. I hope your final days with her are enshrined in your heart and mind with special moments.

Thanks. A lot of emotions and moments, good and bad. Hardest thing I've ever experienced in my whole damn life.

Oh, Deej, that's sad. On your next re-read of SL maybe you could pretend that you're reading it to her. She'll hear you, I'm sure.

One day I'm going to get them to try 11/22/63, The Green Mile, Duma Key, or one of the horror-lite books. I think Dolores Claiborne, Lisey's Story, and Hearts in Atlantis are great books to hook them, too.
Thinking - maybe "The Eyes of the Dragon" would be good, too? I adored that book - just like a fairy tale :rugby:

My mom has read Bag of Bones (my favorite and she liked it), 11/22/63 and Duma Key. I can't remember if she finished Duma Key. There was some "animal stuff" I'd forgotten about and she was mad as a hornet at me! That's why I have to re-read a book now before I recommend it to her. She started Lisey's Story and didn't like it. That book wasn't a favorite of mine the first time either, but when I did a re-read last year I absolutely fell in love with it.

Moms. My mom. She has read a few SK books on my recommendation. 11/22/63 was a big hit with her. Lisey's Story confused her. She read Salem's Lot back when it was new - long before I was a Constant Reader.

Dana Jean Was it always like that with your mom? I'm close to my girls like that. I think we will always be.

I'm finally reading The Woman in the Window. It's good. But I know a twist is coming. I keep predicting what it is, fighting the urge to flip to the back and ruin it for myself. But I'm not gonna. OK
my prediction is that it's going to be twisty like Shutter Island or it's going to be twisty like The Sixth Sense - just sayin' so I can say I said it

Started Nocturnal by Scott Sigler. Finished Ararat. That was good. Had a little lull at about page 100 but soon picked up speed again. If this is whats gonna happen when they find Noahs ark lets hope they never will. (Shiver)

Thanks for the recommendation - I just ordered Ararat from the local library - maybe it will be in when I get back from the trip!
