I finished A Stir of Echoes and loved it. Immediately rewatched the movie--it's very different from the book, but I like it as well.

I've been watching Grantchester, a series about a British vicar and copper who solve murders together, based upon a book series by James Runcie. James Norton plays the vicar, and is such a wonderful actor and so beautiful to gaze upon. :) After finishing season two last night, I ordered the first of the books for my Kindle, and will read this next.

Is this the show where the vicar is a randy little devil with women falling all over him? ;-D

Kurben or anyone else -- I just purchased a book by Fredrik Backman -- my grandmother asked me to tell you she's sorry.

Totally intrigued me. Have you read it, know other works by the author, familiar with his work?

I really want to like it. I haven't been able to get myself reading in months!

My apologies if this has been discussed.

I know he wrote A Man Called Ove and I loved that movie. I haven't read any of his books yet. Please share your thoughts here when you finish.

Have not read it. He got a lot of praise for his first novel, A Man Called Ove. After that he has written the one you mentioned and one called Britt-Marie Was Here and also a novella named And Every Day The Way Home Gets Longer And Longer. I must admit i havent read any of his books. Just hasn't happened. Tell me what you think, will you? He is known for his first one primarily. Seen as an up and coming author. Wrote his first in 2012 so he is rather new.

Thank you guys. I will read and report back. It sounds sweet and charming, and I'm feeling a bit nostalgic for my people these days. So, hopefully it lives up to my hopes.

I'm wrapping up Empire Falls and I will begin The Secret History shortly. Today I pulled out paperbacks of Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All and A Summons To Memphis (Pulitzer winner) and will read them as well.
Empire Falls, which has a non-supernatural Needful Things vibe, may appeal to some of you here that favor that King book. muskrat osnafrank HollyGolightly AchtungBaby Tery

Backman is a fantastic author but unfortunately I had trouble getting into that particular book. :(

I haven't yet read Britt-Marie (who is a character is My Grandmother...) but have read his other works--all 5 stars from me! I would give Grandmother 3 stars.

I'm currently reading Jodi Picoult's Nineteen Minutes. This is only my second book from her but she's quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. This particular title is about a school shooting, which is done by one of the students. It's an exploration of everyone involved and how things got to that point/the consequences after. Only 65 pages in and wow--Picoult already made my stomach drop. Few subjects in fiction upset me as much as school shootings.
