It's amazing how much Michale Koryta teaches you as he's raising your blood pressure. I learned a lot I didn't know about fires and fire fighting in this novel. In The Ridge, I leaned about big cat rescue shelters and in Last Words, I leaned about caves and cave rescue (and claustrophobia :)).
And in the Prophet, I learned about football. Well, it was new to me. :a11:

But yes! I was fascinated when he was teaching the kids how to use a stick and the sun to determine location. Okay, a sundial that I am very aware of, but if you are in the middle of nowhere surrounded by tall mountains, how do you know exactly which way is north. Sure, it's 3 o'clock, but which way are you facing?

Just for the record, I'd still be lost.

Over the weekend, I read a stack of letters that my father wrote in the decade before he died. He worked out of town in several isolated communities, and he had his share of "adventures." The thought crossed my mind that I could do something creative with those letters. When Ian McEwan was writing Atonement, he read dozens of letters that World War II soldiers wrote to their wives and girlfriends. I just keep thinking that people and things come into our lives for a reason.

Taylor Sheridan is directing (and wrote the screenplay) the Those Who Wish Me Dead movie. He's the director from Wind River (and actor in Hell or High Water). I'm encouraged.

I think this is a very cinematic story and it takes place in Montana so we should at least have some great scenery. I think this movie has potential.

Just finished the book over the weekend. Done correctly, this could be an awesome movie. Onward to The Prophet- same author.

Finished The Cuban Affair and started Those Who Wish Me Dead. Loving it! I expected to finish it before the weekend was done but we ended up enjoying some of our nice weather out and about as a family. Still a little over 100 pages to go.
I may be the last person in North America to finally read Those Who Wish Me Dead. :heheh:

I was in a used bookstore here recently and I noticed this book published/printed by a place called Thorndike Press which prints/publishes large print books. The company is based in Maine. The book was printed in 1999 but it is out of print for that company according to their website. It is a Max Brand book.
