Being away from all the usual distractions has been good for my reading time. This past month I've read:

Exit Wounds and The A List by J.A. Jance
The Institute by Stephen King
A Noise Downstairs by Linwood Barclay

Started it yesterday and currently about halfway through Origin by Dan Brown. Started The Reckoning by John Grisham at the beginning of the month but it didn't grab me. Will save that one for when I'm back in AZ again and maybe then I'll have better luck with it.
So Marsha, I checked out a couple of J.A. Jance e-books and Linwood Barclay books for my vacation based on this. I have already finished one of the Jance's, so I need to download a couple more before I leave. :biggrin2:

Very cool! I hope you like them. I had a hard time putting down the Linwood Barclay book and I've enjoyed all of the J.A. Jance books I've read but not sure if it's because she sets the ones I've read in AZ and so it's almost like home territory.

Ive been reading Sleeping Beauties since the last day of April. Im almost done with the book got about 90 pages left to go. I think Stephen and Owen dragged it on too much with the whole thing with the men trying to get Evie out of the prison etc. Plus the thing with the Other Side that the women were in i couldnt stand it. It was basically the women doing ok on the Other Side but it felt like The Other Side was also a place for those who died also thats my opinion

All opinions are welcome. Each reader takes from a book, by any author(s) differently. Likes/ dislikes/ blahhs.

I am about 50 pages into Journal Of A Novel: The East Of Eden Letters by John Steinbeck. John's longtime friend and editor Pascal Covici had given John a leather bound journal to write in. John would use the left side pages to write a daily 'letter' to his friend Pascal to flex his mental muscles before he began work on the book East Of Eden, which John used the right side pages to hand wrote the novel in. It's an interesting read as John writes about his daily life here and also what he wants to do with the novel and how it transpires into what it became. Pascal didn't get to read these daily entries until after the book was finished, so it was like going back in time for him. It's a fascinating book to me as East Of Eden is my all time favorite Steinbeck novel.

I finished Skeleton Crew a couple nights ago. While there were a few stories I wasn't crazy about, there were several stories that ranged from good to great. Overall, I thought this was a great collection.

My favorites from this collection:

The Mist
The Reach
The Jaunt
Mrs. Todd's Shortcut
Gramma
The Raft
The Man Who Would Not Shake Hands

I tried to come up with a Top 5, but it was difficult to cut the list down. The Mist and The Reach are a step above the rest for me. Both stories are now high on my list of favorite King works.

I'm now reading Echoes of Violence by Glen Krisch. It's described as The Walking Dead meets Groundhog Day. Sounds like an awesome combo to me (to read about anyway)!

Read R as in Ricochet and S as in Silence. Both by Sue Grafton. The R-book had to do with economic crimes and that always makes me snore, Fale accounts and so on and so forth, off shore accounts, moneylaundering. I dont know why i always gets bored with that. But the S-book was nice.
I am now starting Praetorian - The rise and fall of Romes imperial bodyguard. They were founded by Augustus, the first emperor, as a bodyguard but in some times were so powerful they decided who was the next emperor.

The Reach is one of my all time favorite King stories, along with The Woman In The Room from Night Shift. I think they are amazing tales.

Just finished The Charms of Miss O'Hara by Phillip Done. A bio of Ann Rutherford, who played Careen O'Hara in Gone With The Wind and Polly in the Andy Hardy series. Very sweet look at her life and Hollywood's Golden Age. Now finishing up the Horror Movie A Day book (added some good ones to my amazon watchlist). Trying to decide where to go next...
