Finished Koryta's How It Happened and started The Cypress House also by him. Grabbed from the very start. I have not been disappointed by any of his books yet!
LOL I finished So Cold the River by Koryte and was stuck between Cypress House or Last Words. I picked Last Words, but will likely hit Cypress House in a week or so. I am really liking this guy. His novels are engrossing and he does such a good job of convincing you that his expert really knows what he's talking about, whether it's firefighting, survival skills, law enforcement, film-making, etc. He either does an amazing amount of research or is very, very well versed in a lot of stuff!

Last Words is part of the Mark Novak series . It is stand alone, but will continue in Rise the Dark. Both excellent reads. You can easily go onto The Cypress House and return later to Rise the Dark. Kortya does indeed do his research for each topic.

Thankee, Ms. Spidey. I will see if Rise the Dark is available when I'm done with Last Words. I think I still have a couple of weeks on my hold of If She Wakes.

Started Europe - A Natural History. It starts 100 million years ago when what was to become europe was mainly a big island archipelago with many islands now gone or part of the mainland. Since it was what it was very few animals has originated here nut instead immigrated from Asia, Africa or Northamerica, its three parents from a continental perspective. But toads, salamanders and newts did originate in Europe and spread over the world. The mammal we know of to, probably, be of european origin is the Elephant shrew. Vary rare these day but a relative to the later elephants. Its interesting to see these things in a bigger context
than usual. We see different floras and faunas bloom and die with changing climate, new immigrations of animals. The origin of the horse is asian but the evolution of the horse is entirely american. Each new species immigrated in due time to europe. Wellwritten and interesting book.

cat in a bag Spideyman You both convinced me to read The Cypress House next. Couldn't decide between three books, but you ladies made the choice easy for me. I'm excited to get started!

I am only halfway through The Cypress House. Not much reading time lately. I am liking the story, but I think maybe the tone is getting to me a little. Set in the Great Depression. I don't know what it is, because the story is great. I think that is a sign into how much research he does! He is definitely portraying the gritty, concentrate on today because tomorrow will have it's own set of problems, feel of that era.

His reality of each theme is amazing. Yes, research indeed. Keep with it you can cat in a bag ending will satisfy you.
Have you read Envy the Night? It is lighter theme. Mystery/ thriller and you will not see the "gottcha moment" coming!

Oh I'm definitely going to finish it. I really am liking the story.

Have not read Envy the Night. I think that is the only one I haven't bought yet.

Black House - Stephen King and Peter Straub

With The Talisman, I had a hard time picking out what I thought Stephen and Peter wrote but in Black House, I'm guessing that Peter wrote the parts where the narrator is flying around the town looking in on the citizens and Stephen wrote the on the ground action. Anyone else think that?

I'm halfway through and enjoying it. The first 100 pages or so went kind of slow. Those pages are good and are important background information about the town and the characters but are not what I would call page turner pages.
